About our Investigative/Senior Editor:

audiochuck is seeking a seasoned Investigative/Senior Editor with a passion for true crime to help bring our stories to life. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of the genre, a background in investigative journalism or editing, and a talent for crafting narratives that resonate with audiences. You will work closely with hosts and producers, refining content to match our hosts' unique voices, maintain narrative clarity, and ensure a compelling listening experience.

What You’ll Do:

  • Story Development & Narrative Editing: Collaborate with hosts, writers, and producers to shape, edit, and refine story ideas from initial concept to final product. Develop impactful story arcs that honor victims and engage listeners.
  • Voice-Specific Editing: Edit scripts and content specifically to match the tone and style of audiochuck’s hosts, ensuring each episode feels authentic and in sync with their voice and perspective.
  • Investigative Oversight: Guide research and investigative efforts, ensuring all information is accurate, ethically gathered, and substantiated by reputable sources. Provide editorial insight into complex investigations and sensitive topics.
  • Quality Control: Ensure all content adheres to audiochuck’s standards for quality, ethical reporting, and respectful storytelling. Review episodes for consistency, accuracy, and narrative flow.
  • Project Management: Oversee multiple projects simultaneously, managing deadlines and coordinating with cross-functional teams, including writers, fact-checkers, producers, and legal advisors, to deliver on schedule.
  • Audience Engagement: Continuously research and analyze true crime trends to craft stories that resonate with current listeners while attracting new ones.
  • Document Management: help develop, maintain and update one or more writing style guides.

What you will bring to the table:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred but not required).
  • Experience: 5+ years in investigative journalism, narrative editing, or senior editorial roles, preferably within the true crime or documentary space.
  • Storytelling Talent: Proven track record of shaping compelling narratives, with a portfolio demonstrating experience in true crime or investigative content.
  • Voice-Specific Editing Skills: Ability to edit content to match a specific voice, with a sensitivity to tone, pacing, and audience engagement.
  • Research and Investigative Skills: Strong background in researching, fact-checking, and synthesizing complex information into clear, accurate narratives.
  • Project Management: Exceptional organizational skills, with experience overseeing multiple projects simultaneously and collaborating with diverse teams.
  • Passion for True Crime: Deep knowledge of and respect for true crime storytelling, victim advocacy, and ethical reporting.
