If you’re exceptional at what you do, possess an innate desire to work hard alongside a team in creating something meaningful, and thrive in a fast-paced environment, then audiochuck may be a great fit for you.

About the Role:
As a Reporter III at audiochuck, you will be responsible for deep-digging investigative research and interviews to support our storytelling efforts. This is a high-impact role requiring advanced investigative skills, editorial oversight, and a strong dedication to ethical and trauma-informed reporting. You’ll play a critical part in shaping our narratives, uncovering the truth, and delivering compelling, impactful stories to our listeners.

What You’ll Do:

  • Conduct in-depth investigative research and interviews, including with law enforcement officials, investigators, survivors, and the loved ones of victims of violent crimes.
  • Lead and guide research efforts across multiple projects, ensuring all information is accurate, ethically gathered, and substantiated by reputable sources.
  • Provide oversight on complex investigations and sensitive topics, reviewing records, data, and FOIA requests to identify potential additional lines of inquiry.
  • Develop investigative angles for breaking news, developing stories, cold cases, and those left out of the media spotlight.
  • Cultivate and maintain sources to access otherwise inaccessible information.
  • Manage research timelines and coordinate with cross-functional teams, including writers, fact-checkers, producers, and legal advisors, to ensure projects meet deadlines.
  • Continuously research true crime trends and current cases to craft stories that resonate with our audience while attracting new listeners.
  • Evaluate cases under consideration, determine investigative opportunities, and develop strategic plans to pursue them.
  • Identify and engage in training opportunities to enhance investigative and research skills, such as computer-assisted reporting, database analysis, and web research. Share insights with the team to promote ongoing learning and improvement.

What You’ll Bring to the Table:

  • Proven ability to interview investigators, push law enforcement officials for information, and conduct sensitive, trauma-informed interviews with survivors and loved ones.
  • Experience shaping compelling narratives and synthesizing complex information into clear, accurate storytelling.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
  • A deep respect for true crime storytelling, victim advocacy, and ethical reporting.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and the ability to oversee research and investigative efforts at a high level.
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field preferred. Equivalent professional experience will also be considered.
  • At least 5–7 years of experience in investigative journalism, true crime reporting, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in FOIA processes, public records research, and developing investigative leads.
  • A collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively with diverse teams.

What audiochuck Will Bring to the Table:

  • Commitment to intentional leadership development for all employees.
  • Dedication to company culture and promoting mental health.
  • A talented team of collaborative and passionate employees to support your work.
  • An appreciation for diverse work experiences and backgrounds.
  • A chance to work on shows from a leading network for true crime podcasts.
  • Competitive base salary and bonus incentives.
  • Comprehensive benefit plan.
  • 401(k) retirement plan with match.
  • Paid time off.
  • Team events and activities.
