The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), the nation’s leading advocacy organization for children’s healthcare, is seeking an engaging professional to produce, record, and edit AAP podcasts. This individual will conceive, pitch, and craft stories into compelling audio segments, and incorporate interviews, music, and sound effects into captivating compositions. In addition, this role will oversee remote, in-studio, and field-based audio and video recording sessions in collaboration with podcast hosts and manage all editing and post-production tasks. This position provides guidance and oversight regarding podcast strategy and will be located at our beautiful headquarters in Itasca, IL.
Some duties include:
1.Plan, record, and edit podcasts from start to finish, including booking guests, prepping and producing interviews, and managing all aspects of production.
2.Coordinate editorial planning process across multiple staff teams to define weekly topics, contributors, and guests. Manage internal review and approval process for recommended selections.
3.Script stories with an emphasis on simplifying complex subject matter for a broader audience, optimized for the audio medium.
4.Manage all sound recording and production, including achieving balanced and consistent sound mixing, directing voiceover tracking sessions and hosts, and gathering and sourcing various audio elements (e.g., music, sound effects, etc.).
5.Book, prepare for, record, and produce interviews on an ongoing basis within established deadlines.
6.Edit and/or write scripts and questions to structure interviews for compelling narrative, and prep hosts and guests.
7.Manage all logistics for interview and script recordings, audio logistics for live recordings, and all aspects of live event appearances, including equipment procurement for supply, scheduling and travel.
8.Coordinate sponsorships with advertising agency, including facilitating script recordings for audio ads, placing pre-roll and midroll ads in each episode, coordinating digital newsletter ads, and tracking schedule.
9.Maintain knowledge of relevant child health stories and partners; book relevant guests for program appearances accordingly.
10.Script comprehensive show notes for each episode; collaborate with Digital Communications staff for publication.
11.Manage audio recording studio. Manage, maintain, and troubleshoot recording and editing equipment.
12.Publish and distribute podcast episodes through the Libsyn podcast host.
13.Coordinate with social media and marketing colleagues to promote podcasts on relevant channels including YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and other marketing channels.
14.Stay current on podcast news and industry trends to optimize content and provide guidance and expertise.
15.Gather and evaluate analytics to inform strategic adjustments and future podcast development.
16.Attend team meetings, editorial meetings, and conferences as assigned.
17.Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Needed:
1.Bachelor’s degree in film/video/radio, communications or related discipline or an equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience required.
2.At least three years’ related experience in podcast, radio, or audio production required, including developing a streamlined post-production workflow. Experience working with consumer health information and within a corporate, medical, or association environment preferred.
3.Expert level knowledge of all professional audio production procedures, practices, techniques, and terminology and with professional recording and production equipment operation and troubleshooting required, including audio recording and sound mixing equipment, file compression, and recording with condenser, lavalier, and boom microphones. Strong technical acumen essential with proficiency in MS Office, Adobe Audition, Logic, Pro Tools or equivalent Digital Audio Workstation (DAW), and the ability to learn and apply new audio technologies; experience with virtual meeting platforms (e.g., Webex, Teams) and document collaboration platforms (e.g., SharePoint) preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal, decision- making, and time management skills required. Must be creative, pay close attention to detail, take initiative, work both independently and as part of a team, and manage multiple projects simultaneously within strict deadlines. Ability to effectively collaborate with various internal and external constituents essential. Some evening/weekend work and travel required, as well as the ability to be flexible with work schedule to accommodate physicians’ availability.
Hybrid working arrangement of 40% on-site at our Chicago suburb headquarters in Itasca, IL.
