Job Description
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
In rotation with other members of the Extension Department, is responsible for driving the Bookmobile, performing circulation functions, acting as Courier for the Library system, and providing administrative support to the Extension Department and the Head of Extension

- In rotation with other members of the Extension Department, is responsible for driving the Bookmobile and performing circulation functions. Operates and drives Library vehicles in a safe manner.
- Performs circulation functions including:
- Issuing new library cards and processing registration forms.
- Charging, discharging, routing, changing status, and placing requests against materials at the circulation desk.
- Searching for overdue materials.
- Pulling requested materials, including Inter-Consortium Loans, for patrons either in person or using prepared lists and routing them properly.
- Assists patrons by:
- Advising patrons concerning the library and its services, resources, and policies.
- Answering information requests and refers as necessary.
- Answering incoming calls; provides guidance and assistance, routes calls to appropriate personnel or department; takes messages.
- Assists in changes of daily work schedule due to unexpected public demands.
- Assists with the physical maintenance of books by shelving, boxing, transporting by book truck and hand truck, loading and moving bins of books.
- Selects a variety of materials for Bookmobile patrons; rotates, inventories, and deselects materials as necessary.
- Acts as Courier for the Library system transporting library and Inter-consortium materials, inter-office mail, and supplies along a predetermined route.
- Collects, sorts, and packs materials and supplies to go from the Consortium Libraries and Main to the branches, and brings items from the branches to go to the Consortium and Main. Routes all items appropriately.
- Delivers materials to nursing homes, assisting living facilities and rehabilitation centers.
- Sorts and delivers the mail and packages within the building three times per day.
- Transports voter registration forms between the Branches and Anderson County Office of Elections.
- May perform one or more of the following duties:
- Tracks patron usage.
- Cleans exterior of Bookmobile and Courier Van as necessary. Shares in cleaning of interior of bookmobile, including vacuuming, dusting, and mopping. Cleans windows, windshields, and mirrors as necessary.
- Checks engine fluid levels and tire pressures of vehicles on a daily basis.
- Provides administrative support to the Extension Department and the Head of Extension.
- Maintains and monitors supply of office materials in the Extension Department. Ensures branches and department receive requested materials.
- Performs clerical tasks including monitoring the office equipment, refilling cartridges and paper supplies as needed, stamping outgoing mail, emptying shredder, and maintaining the vehicle schedule.
- Undertakes special projects and/or reports on behalf of the Head of Extension.
- Assists the Head of Extension with deselecting and shifting projects both at the Main location and the branches.
- Assists the Head of Extension with the paperwork and checklists for the branches.
- Maintains confidential patron records and preserves confidentiality of said records.
- Cross trains to provide backup for other positions as required. May fill in other positions within the library system, (bookmobile, courier, Main library, and/or traveling to and working at a Branch library).
- Assists in changes of daily work schedule due to unexpected absences or issues.
- Maintains flexibility with workload, tasks, and hours.
- May be required to work nights and weekends.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
(A) High School Diploma; and
(B) One (1) year of customer service or library work experience, preferred.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
(A) Excellent computer skills, including keyboarding, Word, Excel, and internet experience; ability to perform detailed and precise work.
(B) Ability to adhere to library policies and procedures; ability to set priorities and manage workloads.
(C) Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public and all library employees; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to work in a team environment as well as independent work.
(D) Ability to adjust to changes in the daily work schedule; ability to handle multiple projects at the same time.
(E) Ability to learn Dewey Decimal system, automated circulation system and library circulation policies and procedures, ability to count change and handle money.
(F) Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain a safe driving record.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Desktop computer, including typing and spreadsheet programs and Integrated Library Software, cash register, copier, printer, general office tools, and desensitizing and sensitizing equipment.

The employee is required to travel to other areas of the library and Anderson County.
The employee must lift and/or move up to 40 pounds and maneuver a fully loaded book truck and/or hand truck.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and long range vision and the ability to adjust focus.
