Job Description
Internship Summary
We are seeking a creative, driven, and detail-oriented Social Media Intern to join our communications team. As a Social Media Intern, you will play a key role in supporting the development and execution of our communications strategy while also gaining an understanding of public health resources. This position offers hands-on experience in managing social media accounts, content creation, community engagement, and analytics reporting, while helping to build and maintain a positive brand presence across various platforms.
This internship is typically scheduled for around 5-10 hours per week for 4 months.
Responsibilities & Learning Objectives
Content Creation:
- Assist in creating engaging content (images, videos, graphics, copy) for social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, and others.
- Collaborate with the communications team and Public Information Officer to align social media content with health department programs and events.
- Research current design trends and suggest new ideas to improve content reach and engagement.
Social Media Management:
- Support community engagement by creating graphics that communicate health tips, public health campaigns, and educational materials.
- Help develop content calendars to ensure timely and consistent posting across social media channels.
- Assist with general administrative tasks as needed.
Qualifications/Requirements
- Currently pursuing or recently graduated with a degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Graphic Design, Community Health, Public Health or related field.
- Must have knowledge in computer programs including word processing, spreadsheets, desktop publishing, internet and email use.
- Must have good written, verbal, and public communication skills.
- Must be able to work well under pressure, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, work well in team situations, meet deadlines, and be able to work independently on a day-to-day basis.
- Preference given to those with experience working with Canva and social media platforms.
