The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County is seeking a Media & Lighting Technician for our Exhibitions department. The Media & Lighting Technician works closely with the Supervisor of Media & Lighting at the Natural History Museum. It is an exciting time as we embark on new journeys of becoming a museum of, for, and with L.A.
Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
Installation, deinstallation, programming, maintenance, and troubleshooting of audiovisual and lighting equipment, supplies, systems, and software for Museum exhibitions and displays
May coordinate team of technicians in installing or maintaining audiovisual or lighting systems
Creation, editing, and organization of digital media, files, and assets for Museum exhibitions and displays (including video, audio, 2D and 3D imagery and models, interactive software, etc.). Establishing and maintaining workflows and best practices for creation, editing, and organization of the same.
Building and testing of prototypes or proofs-of-concept for Museum exhibitions and displays
Research on equipment, materials, and software for implementation in Museum exhibitions and displays
Communication with vendors and ordering of equipment, materials, and software
This position has the following requirements:
2 or more years of related experience
Familiarity with multiple operating systems (e.g., Windows, MacOS, Android, Linux)
Proficiency with museum and theatrical lighting equipment (e.g., track lighting systems, PAR cans, ellipsoidals, filters, gobos, lenses, dimming systems, DMX controllers)
Proficiency with museum and theatrical audiovisual equipment (e.g., show controllers, video projectors, touch monitors, video players, extenders, cameras, P.A. systems, computers, microcontrollers)
Basic electronic and electrical skills (e.g., soldering, wiring, testing of cables and electronic components)
Proficiency with a variety of media- and design-related software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere, Pro Tools, Unity, Adobe After Effects, Vectorworks)
