BASIC FUNCTION:
The Assistant Vice President of NYS Governor's Office of Motion Picture & TV Development (MPTV) is an integral part of the department who will assist SVP and VP/ED with leading, managing, and developing the team. The AVP may work with the Film, Arts, & New Media staff, key ESD departments, the Governor's Office, State and local agencies, and Film TV and Theatre digital stakeholders to promote and grow New York State's Arts industries. They will support ESD's role as a premier economic development agency and ensure New York's economy continues to strategically grow, prosper, and reflect the diversity that is New York State. The AVP will strategically support the implementation and administration of new and existing programs, developing business attraction and support, to enhance and grow the motion picture and television production industries, post-production industries, theater industries and relevant tech and media industries across NYS. The role develops and maintains the staff and day-to-day office operations.
WORK PERFORMED:
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education Level required: Bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience, in Public Administration, Business Administration, Public Policy, Urban Planning or related field. Master's Degree preferred.
Experience required: 7+ years experience managing and directing a team, 5+ years experience as a manager and leader in governmental or related sections preferred. Experience working in economic development preferred. Ability to think strategically, actively contribute and problem solve.
General skills: Tech savvy, including familiarity with Microsoft products (MS Word, Excel, Access, SharePoint, Mail Merge, Outlook, Dynamics, PowerPoint), email software, internet searching, calendar management, meeting management, Data Analysis, and other programs. Ability to work with statistics and strong writing skills to articulate the meaning of data in readily accessible/understandable formats. Ability to work successfully as part of a team a must.
Knowledge Preferred: Government, international relations, and/or film/TV/Media and ten years of combined experience in the public/private economic development industry, motion picture or television production industry, public policy management or other relevant industries. Experience maintaining working relationships between local communities and economic industries or agencies, preferred. Experience supervising teams, preferably in governmental and hybrid settings.

WORK PERFORMED:
- Provide supervision and daily direction, mentorship, and coordination to staff as needed on all projects and tasks, internal and external programs, and procedures.
- Ensure team goals are being fulfilled, deadlines are met, reports are concise, strategic, and accurate. Maintain ongoing communication with supervisor, providing recurring updates to further collaboration.
- Participate in strategic and programmatic planning meetings to develop and implement new projects and policies, ensuring NYS remains a competitive and economic leader.
- At the direction of the Executive Director, participate in events and presentations. Act as a representative for NYS at meetings when Executive Director is unable to attend.
- In the Executive Director's absence, represent the office, NYS and lead the team to ensure office objectives are met.
- Other duties as assigned.
