Position Summary

Position: Assistant Professorof Music- Viola
RESPONSIBILITIES/POSITION SUMMARY: TheUniversity of New Mexico is seeking a tenure- track Assistant Professor ofViola.This Assistant Professor will: serve as music faculty and teachapplied viola lessons, chamber music, and other courses as needed toundergraduate and graduate students enrolled in the numerous degrees offered bythe Department of Music; teach courses related to string instrument techniqueand repertoire; assist the UNM Orchestras and support the String Pedagogy andMusic Education programs; actively organize and implement string areainitiatives that engage music students and music teachers throughout the stateof New Mexico and beyond.In addition tothe calculable load, the candidate will also contribute to School, College andUniversity service, recruit and retain a robust studio of undergraduate andgraduate students,and maintain an active and visible national and regionalperformance profile.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A Master's degree in Viola Performance or a related field.
At least 5 years' applied teaching experience as a viola instructor, a minimum of which includes 3 years of teaching at the collegiate level (may include graduate teaching experience).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Doctorate in Viola Performance or related field.
Demonstrated expertise as a viola pedagogue and record of excellence in applied teaching as evidenced by the application materials and submitted teaching videos.
Experience teaching other relevant string related courses (e.g. conducting, chamber music, orchestral excerpts, string pedagogy, string technique, string repertoire), as evidenced by the letter of application and C.V.
Excellent technical and expressive skills as a performer as demonstrated by submitted video performance recordings.
Emerging or established national and/or international performance career as evidenced by the application materials and/or references.
Continued commitment to scholarship and vision for future creative work and/or performance activity as detailed in the application materials and/or interviews.
Demonstrated success in student recruiting as evidenced by the application materials and/or references.
A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success as well as experience working with broadly diverse communities as evidenced by the application materials.
Demonstrated leadership and organizational skills as evidenced by the application materials and/or references.
