Reporter- Lake Charles Job at Capital City Press in Baton Rouge
Capital City Press, Baton Rouge, LA, United States
Job Description
The Advocate and The Times-Picayune, as part of our mission to provide public-service journalism in all corners of Louisiana, seek an enterprising reporter to cover Lake Charles.
With a metro population of nearly 250,000, Lake Charles, a city two hours from Houston and three hours from New Orleans, is the economic heart of southwest Louisiana and a hub for the petrochemical industry as well as the booming global market in natural gas. Residents and civic leaders are deeply committed to seeing the area thrive, particularly as it recovers from two major hurricanes in 2020.
A successful candidate will bring aggressive daily and enterprise coverage to Lake Charles. They’ll aim to produce a broad swath of stories on local government, business, food, culture and breaking news. This is a great beat for someone seeking a big canvas who can juggle dailies and longer-tail stories that honestly and clearly reflect the promise — and problems — of the community.
The position, which is funded through a two-year philanthropic grant, is based in Lake Charles.
The Advocate is an equal employment opportunity employer, committed to recruiting, developing, and promoting a diverse workforce while providing unique opportunities and career paths for our employees. We encourage applicants of all backgrounds and experience levels to apply.
