Job DescriptionJoin our team at KVEA Telemundo 52, broadcasting from the iconic Universal Studios Lot. We are looking for a dynamic Reporter with excellent storytelling skills to perform live on-air reporting, write and post digital stories, and collaborate on news packages. The ideal candidate will generate diverse stories showcasing Southern California, maintain news sources, and track developments to engage our audience. The ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment is crucial. While not a requirement for the job, we would like our reporter to occasionally serve as an MMJ to enrich our storytelling. This role involves contributing to quality journalism and representing Telemundo 52 at station events and projects.
Responsibilities
- Perform on-air live reporting for all Telemundo 52 platforms and contribute to breaking and lead stories.
- Write and post stories to digital platforms, ensuring editorial accuracy and compliance with NBCUniversal legal standards.
- Collaborate with managers and producers to conceptualize and produce news packages based on breaking news or assigned stories.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills that foster a connection with the audience, interview subjects, and community members, ensuring stories are relatable and engaging.
- Generate enterprise, community-driven story ideas showcasing Southern California's diversity.
- Develop and maintain a network of news sources across communities, organizations, and social media platforms for exclusive stories.
- Track story developments and communicate progress to the assignment desk and managers.
- Coordinate, organize, and conduct interviews.
- Develop ongoing “sweeps” style stories.
- Write and copy edit assigned scripts in newscasts.
- Articulate viewpoints and experiences in a manner that helps the audience feel a personal connection with the content.
- Work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment with excellent time management skills, prioritizing and multi-tasking under shifting deadlines.
- Participate in station-sponsored events and assigned special promotions projects.
- Minimum 5 years as a TV reporter in a top 30 market.
- Bachelor's degree in journalism or related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Excellent Spanish written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in various on-air reporting functions (anchoring, investigations, franchises, etc.).
- Strong ability to ad-lib effortlessly, especially in breaking news situations.
- Understanding of editorial judgment, journalistic ethics, libel laws, slander, and FCC rules.
- Proven problem-solving and prioritization skills in high-pressure, breaking news environments.
- Effective self-starter with a track record of generating and producing original news stories.
- Familiarity with emerging news production techniques and technology, with a desire to learn and innovate.
- Demonstrated expertise in writing, visual storytelling, and live reporting.
- Ability to perform non-linear editing and shooting workflow.
Desired Characteristics
- Bilingual in English/Spanish is highly desired.
- MMJ experience (Multimedia Journalism), including the ability to shoot, edit, and produce video content independently, is highly desirable.
- Strong news judgment and research skills for identifying compelling stories.
- Good collaborative and interpersonal skills for effective communication at all levels within the team.

Required On-Site: This position is required to be performed full-time from an NBCUniversal-designated worksite.

Salary Range: $100,000 to $140,000
