Junior Policy Analyst/ Technical Writer

SUMMARY:

The Concourse Group is looking for a skilled analyst with the ability to work in a small team environment to solve problems for multiple programs within our FEMA-DHS service sector. Candidates must live locally as employees are required to be on site in Annapolis on Tuesday and occasionally other times and days as needed by the clients and/or the company.

Our Policy Analyst/ Technical Writer will have strong reading and writing skills, program support, and administrative responsibilities—such as research, ability to summarize research, stakeholder engagement support, preparing reports and various communications for senior government officials and the public, and performing administrative duties. Successful candidates will have excellent written and oral communication skills, strong attention to detail, and be comfortable in fast-paced environments and managing an independent workflow while looking forward to future tasks.  

 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 

  • Strong analytical skills and ability to extract concepts from research
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office, and Excel skills are an added bonus
  • Strong skills in research, reading, and writing
  • Independent worker that can manage multiple tasks while forward-looking at future tasks
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally in both writing and orally
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Data visualization skills in PowerPoint a plus
  • Support analytical tasks as part of an integrated client delivery team to include research, policy research, and policy analysis
  • Distill complex information from multiple sources into guidance documents, analytical assessments, reports, memoranda, and presentations tailored for senior public sector clients and whole community partners
  • Apply qualitative analytic approaches and principles
  • Develop concise, clear, and easily consumable written deliverables based on current and proposed policy
  • Support coordination with stakeholders to collect, analyze, and report on policy-and guidance-related concepts and data
  • Conduct a comprehensive analysis of materials and stakeholder feedback to the author and adjust policy and guidance documents
  • Provide strong attention to detail and apply writing skills to create reports, assessments, and other written deliverables
  • Ability to work independently on multiple tasks under the direction of a team lead
  • Ability to prioritize workflow to meet all future deadlines
  • Interest in emergency response and preparedness theoretical design, implementation and policy

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in social, political or theoretical sciences, other majors are acceptable with relevant experience
  2. Minimum two years of professional experience (relevant internships qualify), with relevant professional experience supporting policy-related projects
  3. Preference is given to those with federal experience
  4. Demonstrated writing skills. A writing sample is required.
  5. Ability to earn a favorable Public Trust clearance

OTHER:

  1. Must be organized, positive, proactive, and results-oriented
  2. Must hold a U.S. Citizenship
  3. Must live local to the National Capital Region
