This position maintains a therapeutic relationship with all patients; Plans and conducts varied group and individual recreation therapy for all patients and conducts assessments on patients; Additionally, the recreation therapist mentors direct care staff, reports any problems in regards to performance to the director and oversees weekend and evening recreation.Responsibilities include, but are not limited too: Maintains a professional demeanor at all times and responds to patients, families, co-workers, and community partners in a courteous, respectful manner Works efficiently without direct supervision of each task Assesses patient leisure needs as soon as possible, but no later than 72 hours of the patient's admissions date and time and develop behavioral treatment plans, goals, and interventions. Assists in the day-to-day monitoring of the patient population. Establishes, initiates, organizes, and conducts the recreation therapy treatment program including leisure education, pet therapy, creative expression, outdoor education/recreation, art, community reintegration, and special events such as birthdays, holidays, and graduation parties. Promotes the physical appearance of the unit through decorations, bulletin boards, and displays of patient activities. Assists in the inventory and ordering of appropriate recreation therapy supplies. Conducts recreation therapy groups, as scheduled, and document patient's participation and progress toward individual treatment goals outlined. Participates in the monitoring and assessment of recreation therapy programming, assisting with programming changes, as needed, in order to promote treatment that effectively meets the needs of all patients. Attends and participates in treatment team meetings and selected therapeutic groups when the program schedule permits. Establishes relationships with community agencies providing recreation therapy services. Maintains cleanliness and organization of supplies and areas used when conducting recreation activities. Provides appropriate crisis intervention, as necessary, by anticipating and responding quickly to escalating behaviors, utilizing de-escalation techniques, correctly prioritizing safety concerns, following proper restraint technique guidelines, and displaying neutral emotions. Maintains appropriate relationships with patients by treating them in a respectful manner at all times, by eliciting patients' interest and cooperation, maintaining appropriate boundaries, and promoting a positive peer culture. Responds to any emergency situation involving patients in treatment.
