AARPs Integrated Communications and Marketing (ICM) Group includes Membership, Content and Editorial, Customer Experience, External Relations, Brand Strategy and Strategic Communications. Across paid, earned, shared and owned channels, ICM manages AARPs reputation, drives engagement and member growth, and showcases AARPs mission and value through one, integrated voice.

The Social Media Strategist & Community Manager develops and executes compelling content strategies for social video platforms (YouTube, TikTok, Reels, etc.) that drive strategic social media and brand objectives and deliver measurable results in line with organizational goals. This role will lead social strategy and community management for AARPs flagship YouTube channel, including search optimization, tracking and reporting on platform metrics, copywriting, publishing, and ensuring all content is aligned with brand standards and platform best practices. He/she develops and advises on social content strategy for key AARP issue areas, working closely with AARP Studios (in-house video production), Strategic Communications, Integrated Marketing, Editorial and other teams. Manages day-to-day relationships with internal teams and agency partners to develop social video content, and partners with social media team colleagues on both paid and organic strategies to deliver video content onto AARPs YouTube channel, as well as other social video platforms including TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, and LinkedIn. Collaborates enterprise-wide to drive growth in key social video metrics, analyzes content performance, stays current on industry trends and platform best practices, and provides strategic guidance to better engage online communities.

Responsibilities:
  • Develops and executes an integrated communications and marketing plan for a defined portfolio of programs and services, while providing day-to-day communications and marketing support and superior client service.
  • Identifies and shares opportunities for public and media relations, thought leadership initiatives, social media, and digital tools that support programmatic objectives. Partners with designer and editorial team to identify and create program success stories, interview opportunities with consumers and volunteers, and brand compliant assets to support AARP's brand story.
  • Partners with programmatic teams and influences internal business units, channel owners, and external vendors to develop and launch creative tactics that support campaign strategy. Develops briefs and creative components. Facilitates review and production for offline and online channels.
  • Develops timelines to meet project commitments and to ensure deliverables from across the organization and external partners are on time.
  • Works with management and partners in other departments to measure and report on program results, performs research and leverages segmentation data.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or a related field.
  • Over 5 years of experience in social media strategy development and implementation for diverse stakeholders, including social video content and community management.
  • Strong knowledge of social media platforms, particularly video-driven ones, with significant management experience in YouTube and other social video platforms like TikTok and Reels.
  • Proven ability to leverage new trends and emerging platforms to enhance a brands social media strategy.
  • Expertise in managing social content strategies and engaging communities using data-driven insights.
  • Proficient in using and optimizing marketing tools, including SEO, to drive growth.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong commitment to quality, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal and account-management skills, with the ability to foster business relationships and manage multiple projects in large, complex organizations. Experience working with video production teams and developing paid social media marketing campaigns is preferred.

Hybrid Work Environment

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as remote workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work can only be done within the United States and its territories.
