Job Description

Position Summary:

The Senior Mechanical Design Drafter is responsible for creating detailed technical drawings and plans for mechanical systems and components based on specifications provided by engineers and project managers. This role involves using computer-aided design (CAD) software to produce precise and accurate designs, including schematics, layouts, and diagrams. The drafter will collaborate closely with engineers to understand project requirements, make necessary design adjustments, and ensure that all mechanical drawings comply with industry standards.

Working within a diverse range of engineering disciplines including laser physics, power and digital electronics, mechanics, software, and biomedicine, you will have a direct impact on future Cutera devices and thereby influence the future of dermatology.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Work with engineers on new product design for high volume opto-mechanical medical systems from concept to production release as well as design modifications to existing products.
  • Generate detailed part and assembly drawings for manufacturing, including machined, sheet metal, injection molded plastic components, and cable assemblies using SolidWorks CAD software.
  • Review and modify designs to comply with specifications, standards, and regulations.
  • Maintain and update CAD files and documentation in PDM vault. Update product assembly CAD models to reflect production condition per initial release and ongoing engineering change.
  • Maintain drawing templates and standardize to ensure consistency in drawing format.
  • Creating engineering change documentation (ECO) for new product releases and existing product support.
  • Perform quality checks on drafted drawings.
  • Prepare design documentation for engineering change documentation for release to manufacturing.
  • Assist in the preparation of Bill of Materials.
  • Coordinate with team members to ensure timely completion of projects.
  • Assist in the build of prototypes in new product development.
  • Assist in testing and evaluation of systems and individual components.
  • Participate in project meetings and contribute to design planning.
  • Assist in troubleshooting design issues during the production phase.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Other duties as needed or required.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:
  • AS degree or equivalent with 5+ years of experience in mechanical design/drafting.
  • Drafting experience should include creating engineering drawings for molded assemblies, opto-electronics, lasers, machining, and sheet metal.
  • Experience with creating engineering change documentation; Arena PLM software is desirable.
  • In depth knowledge of ASME Y14.100 Engineering Drawing Practices.
  • Understanding of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) ASME Y14.5.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and injection molding tooling.
  • Hands-on experience prototyping, testing, and evaluating mechanical systems.
  • Must have strong attention to detail.
  • Strong mathematical skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field is preferred.
  • SolidWorks Drawing Tools Certification (CSWPA-DT) is desirable.
  • CAD design experience using Pro-Engineer (Wildfire 2.0 or greater preferred) and Interlink PDM is desirable.


Additional Information

Cutera expects to reasonably pay in the range listed below for this position based on the city and state listed in the job posting. The actual compensation is influenced by a wide array of factors, including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, education, and candidate residence if the position is remote or field-based.

Base salary: $100,000 - $130,000
