Fact-Checking Editor (Level 1 Journalist) Reuters is seeking an experienced editor to take part in our fact-checking project and support the high volume of editing demands from our global fact-checking output. The ideal candidate can effortlessly take the lead on editing or assigning stories as well as juggle the demands of both editorial standards and business development. This hybrid working position will be based in our newsroom in New York, Washington D.C., or Toronto. About the Role As our Fact Checking Editor (Level 1 Journalist) , you will: Proactively edit articles while fostering a positive, collaborative and inclusive work environment. Enforce Reuters editorial and ethical standards, adhering to style, guidelines and policies laid out by the Reuters Trust Principles and the Reuters Handbook of Journalists. Show attention to detail by ensuring stories meet Reuters standards for accuracy, speed, balance and clarity. Support fact-check article production and build closer ties with the broader Reuters news file. Mentor early-career journalists to deepen their knowledge and sharpen their coverage. Collaborate with journalists across regional teams to develop fact-checking articles. Meet Reuters Fact Check deliverables outlined in our fact-checking partnerships. Explore latest digital verification techniques and tools. Produce fact-checking articles or explainers when required. About You You're a fit for the role of Fact Checking Editor (Level 1 Journalist) , if your background includes: At least 6 years of international news writing and/or editing experience. Demonstrated experience editing under tight deadlines and sharing constructive feedback with journalists. Proven track record of writing and/or editing clean, accurate news copy under tight deadlines in a newsroom. Show a proven interest in covering misinformation or fact-checking. Outstanding news judgement. The ability to identify emerging trends online and misinformation. Curiosity to learn and openness to feedback. Enthusiastic about collaborating with colleagues across different beats and cultures. Fluency in Arabic, French, Spanish or any other European language is a plus. The location(s) for this role include one or more of the following metro locations: Los Angeles, New York City, San Francisco, Washington, DC. The base compensation range for the role in any of those locations is $72,000 - $130,000.
