Local News Editor/Reporter
The York News-Times is seeking a journalist with keen attention to detail to edit copy, write headlines and decide story placement. This person also will compile listings of major events in the community, rewrite press releases and occasionally report and write news and features stories. This is true local journalism where you can make an impact on a community. The people of York care deeply about their newspaper.
Responsibilities include preparing pages and stories for digital and print, including optimizing content for the web with a video on each story and using social media to engage and grow our digital subscriber base.
If you are able to work quickly and accurately on deadline and write clearly, this may be the role for you. The successful candidate will be proficient in reporting and writing according to grammar rules and AP style, as well as be able to take photos, videos and produce web-only features such as photo galleries or polls.
Preference will be given to candidates with a journalism degree, although internships and experience will be considered. New graduates/journalists are welcome to apply. The York News-Times provides an opportunity for journalists to learn and grow. This position includes night and some weekend hours. The ability to produce timely reports in today's instant digital news environment is a must.
