Salary : $90,885.43 - $136,328.14 Annually Location : North Miami Beach, FL Job Type: Full-Time Job Number: 00537 Department: Library Division: LIBRARY ADMINISTRATION Opening Date: 07/15/2024 FLSA: Exempt Bargaining Unit: N/A Description The Deputy Library Director works as a professional librarian under the general direction of the Library Director. The Deputy Director is responsible for assisting in all functional activities relating to the management and coordination of library operations, including assuming the duties of the Library Director in his/her absence. The Deputy Director supervises employees and takes independent action in the coordination of all services, outreach, and all other activities. The Deputy Director is responsible for maintaining the library's website, facilities and oversees in collection development and maintenance. This position has considerable contact with the public and plays a key role in establishing and solidifying library patron relationships through outstanding customer service. ADA REQUIREMENTS : Individual's sensory modalities (vision and hearing) and physical capabilities (ambulation, strength, coordination, dexterity, range of motion) must be sufficient to perform the Essential Functions of the position. Examples of Duties Supervises the Senior Library Senior Staff, Library Support Staff and manages all library employees. Directs and Manages all library services in the absence of the Library Director. Assists in the formulation and execution of annual goals and objectives that support the library's mission and meet community goals. Assists in the preparation and monitoring of the annual operating and capital budget. Effectively communicates general library information and policy to library patrons. Provides guidance on long and short-term goal setting, daily operations, and services to the public. Assists in developing, implementing, and evaluating library policies, procedures, and programs. Develops, implements, and evaluates programming for adults. Advises the Library Director on policy and procedural issues. Advises the Library Director on Survey results and Community needs. Designs, develops, and maintains an attractive and informative library website. Supervises Library Marketing as necessary Participates in Commission, Committee and Stakeholders meetings. Advises Library Director of grant opportunities and assists in researching/applying for grants, survey development and grant reporting as needed. Participates in professional development opportunities and delivers training to the staff. Represents the library at community programs, meetings, and conferences as appropriate. Participates in Leadership training at State and National levels. Performs other related job duties as assigned. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through personal contact, the use of the telephone and/or other City-issued technology devices. Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach and twist under desks and around furniture; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull moderate to heavy amounts of weight up to 20 lbs.; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; and toverbally communicate to exchange information. Minimum Qualifications Master's Degree in Library Science from an accredited American Library Association graduate school; and five (5) years of progressively responsible library experience with at least three (3) years in a management capacity with grant writing and Library systems; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Special Qualifications: Possession of a valid, State of Florida driver's license to operate a motor vehicle. Requirements exist at the time of hire and as a condition of continued employment. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling while walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. The amount of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium. Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine. Occurs to a considerable degree and requires full motion of the lower extremities and back muscles.
