Description

The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts (LPA), nestled between the Vivian Beaumont Theater and the Metropolitan Opera at Lincoln Center, is at the center of the performing arts in the performing arts capital. It is one of the world's most prestigious research and circulating libraries, illuminating vast international collections through scholarship, education, exhibitions, and programming. It is an incubator of creativity, home to the performing artist, arts lover and scholar. It fosters the creative works of emerging artists and collects, documents and celebrates established artists, demystifying the creative process through unparalleled collections to the world at large. Annually, LPA hosts over 200 public programs and 4 exhibitions in 5 spaces across the building, all in service to highlighting its archival holdings and inspiring the next generation of artists and arts lovers.

You will have access to the Library Page Fellowship Program as a Library Page. A career growth development program that empowers youth as they shape their careers. The Program provides resources to help develop career readiness skills, explore career goals, and provide on-the-job coaching, training, and mentorship.

The library page position for public programs is scheduled for 19 hours per week. Some availability on Monday, Thursday evenings and Saturdays is required. Schedules are variable based on library needs and may be subject to change.

Key Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Asst. Director, Production & Exhibition Technology & Asst. Manager the Public Programs, Library Page is responsible for a variety of tasks within the library, including:
  • Offering support to Programming, Special Events, and Production teams with stage management and preparation (moving music stands, microphone stands, chairs, cueing, etc)
  • Assisting Programming, Events, and Production staff members and volunteer ushers on the Front of House process, including answering patron questions, monitoring admissions lines, distributing tickets, checking in reservation holders, assisting VIP guests
  • Assisting with updating the NYPL and Lincoln Center websites
  • Assisting with drafting printed material and collateral related to programs
  • Assisting with attendance reports
  • Must be available Monday and Thursday evenings and some Saturdays
  • Performs other related tasks as needed
Skills Knowledge & Expertise

Required Education and Certifications
  • Current enrollment in a degree program at an accredited school
  • Proper employment certificate for minors under 18 as required by NYS law
Required Experience
  • Interest or experience in Event Operations
  • Ability to troubleshoot basic computer and printer issues
  • Affinity for the Performing Arts is a plus
