Position Summary The Evening Fulfillment Specialist is responsible to the Circulation and Reserves Manager for ensuring effective operation of the public service desk at the Main Library during evening and weekend hours. This role hires, trains, and supervises10+ student assistants who work in the Circulation/Reserves unit. The Specialist III writes and keeps up-to-date training manuals; handles non-routine problems, and provides specialized services that facilitate access to UGA Libraries resources. This work is completed outside of typical business hours during the evenings and weekends, in the absence of the unit supervisors, necessitating good judgment and creative problem solving.   • Demonstrated ability to supervise, including training personnel for the performance of routine duties and to plan and organize the work of others.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Proven ability to deal tactfully and courteously with library patrons.

  • Ability to perform clerical tasks accurately with close attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle cash receipts, checks and credit cards.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work activities.
  • Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures and equipment.
  • Knowledge of word processing and web publishing software (i.e., Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat, etc.).

  • Coordinates all activities at the Circulation desk during the library's evening and weekend hours and in the absence of the unit supervisors by providing direct supervision to all students and staff working at the Circulation desk and by handling all non-routine problems.
  • Determines student work priorities and makes daily assignments based on the specific needs of the Access Services Department by conferring with unit supervisors and by assessing the immediate needs of the department.

  • Develops and maintains a competent and productive staff of 10+ student assistants by managing their hiring, training, scheduling, supervising, evaluating, counseling, coaching, and terminating as needed.
  • Prepares student payroll records by updating, verifying, and approving student timesheets.
Percentage of time 25 Duties/Responsibilities
  • Provides assistance with specialized services, including collecting payments for fines and fees, issuing various types of borrowers' cards, and placing and lifting holds on both library and university accounts.
  • Provides correct and courteous interpretations of and solutions to patron problems concerning policies, procedures and routines relating to the Circulation desk.
  • Instructs UGA patrons in the use of GIL Express and communicates with other USG libraries concerning problems that arise with GIL Express.

  • Manages the Main Library's study carrels by monitoring and maintaining the inventory of keys and patron assignments, preparing routine correspondence, and conducting regular carrel inspections and reporting any issues to the Assistant Department Head.
Percentage of time 10 Duties/Responsibilities
  • Assists the Circulation and Reserves Coordinator in the fulfillment of scan on demand requests for materials from the Main Library by receiving, processing, and delivering print materials and the digitization and electronic delivery of requested items to library users.
  • Assists with the management of course reserves by processing and maintaining reserve lists as needed.
Percentage of time 20 Duties/Responsibilities
  • Recommends changes in current services or the addition of new services by evaluating departmental operations and services to library patrons.
  • Participates in library-wide communication by reading, responding to, and initiating information transmitted via GRAPEVINE (the Libraries' listserv) and other communication tools, and appropriate library-wide or departmental meetings and asking questions, seeking clarification, or initiating discussion on library issues.
  • Maintains flexibility and awareness of changes and needs in the Access Services Department and organization by assuming similar duties and responsibilities as assigned.
