General Schedule
Position typically works Monday-Friday from 8am-5pm in-office at UCO's main campus in Edmond, Oklahoma, with the possibility of working evenings and weekends, as needed for coverage. There is a possibility for remote work one day per week.
Position Overview
The University of Central Oklahoma Chambers Library connects the Central community to dynamic resources and services that support transformative learning.
The Software Developer will administer the library technology platform (currently Ex Libris' Alma and Primo), develop API connections with other library systems and software (including PowerBI), and assist other campus users of the Alma system. Additionally, the developer will be expected to leverage existing and future systems to enhance access to a wide range of library and community resources. As the ILS Administrator, this role requires the completion of Alma and Primo certifications within the first three months of employment.
The Software Developer will work closely with all library departments as well as campus Information Technology departments and other campus entities. In particular the developer will work closely with the head of Acquisitions, the head of Metadata and Cataloging, and the Web Developer to configure and manage Alma and Primo. This person will have primary responsibility for the fulfillment configurations, user management, and associated integrations. The Software Developer will carefully maintain the privacy and confidentiality of patron data in accordance with UCO Office of Information Technology requirements as well as current legal and professional library ethical standards. There will also be some training responsibilities as new libraries and users are onboarded.
The position also requires facilitating communication with vendors via tickets as well as direct contact. The person in this position will be encouraged to actively participate in professional development. The Software Developer will also be responsible for offering suggestions for improvements to the ILS software and managing UCO submissions and votes for the annual enhancements cycle for the ILS. As a member of the Systems department the Software Developer will be expected to respond to library user submitted tickets.
The Library Technical Services Department includes Systems, the Innovation Studio makerspace, Metadata and Cataloging, desktop support, website management, and server administration.
Job Duties
Qualifications/Experience Required
Bachelor's degree in job related field plus 3 years of work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience including a degree or coursework in computer science, management of information systems, and/or library and information science.
Qualifications/Experience Preferred
Familiarity with SaaS and enterprise systems (especially integrated library systems), Familiarity with responsive web design, Familiarity with Microsoft PowerBI, Working knowledge of the use and application of APIs, Familiarity with common coding and scripting languages like PHP, Java, SQL, regular expressions, Angular JS and Python.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Ability to effectively communicate with diverse users and work collaboratively on a team, Self-starter, Ability to meet deadlines, Creative problem-solving capabilities, A commitment to excellent customer service, Excellent time management and communication skills, Experience in libraries or higher education.

Job Duties
- Develop API connections among other integrations as needed and collaborate with campus IT as necessary
- Provide support for all users of the Alma and Primo systems
- Run analytics reports and create dashboards and visualizations as requested as well as maintain existing connections
- Seek out opportunities to create efficiencies in library operations through software improvements and work with the Director of Library Technology & Data Management and other Systems Department staff members to implement improvements
- Participate in Systems Department meetings and activities as well as serve on library task forces and committees
- Other duties as assigned
