Summary

Dynamic individual with strong writing and communication skills who works well in a fluid environment. A mechanically-inclined, detail oriented candidate that can read engineering illustrations and covert that into technical manuals.

Essential Functions

  • Ability to review and edit complex technical information for readability.
  • Ability to learn about technical topics and apply knowledge to technical writing efforts
  • Ability to work closely with technical SMEs and engineers to edit technical input and develop procedural tasks/steps.
  • Strong ability to distill writing requirements from Statements of Work and CDRLs (Contract Data Requirements List), ensuring that documents are developed in accordance with program/project specifications.
  • Experience developing training packages that include Training Plans, User Guides, Slidedecks, and Instructor Guides.
  • Good organizational skills that identify documents requirements, as well as track development milestones and status.
  • Ability to manage configuration and version control files/documents in a SharePoint ecosystem.
  • Experience with formatting files to meet regulation specifications, formatting, and content compliance.
  • Knowledge of complex functions of Microsoft Word, including the creation of heading styles, appendices, Tables of Content/Figures, and integrating tables and images with captions into a document.
Supervision Received: The position reports directly to the VP of Engineering and Production

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Competency or position requirements
  • At least two (2) years' experience as a technical writer of military doctrine, training, and/or operations & maintenance (O&M) technical manuals.
  • At least two (2) years' experience as a technical writer of user guides for software programs/apps that address Graphic User Interface (GUI) operations.
  • At least two (2) years' experience with scientific, technical, engineering, military or other professional material requiring an understanding of the basic concepts, practices and specialized vocabulary of the appropriate scientific and or technical field is preferred.
  • At least two (2) years' experience as a technical writer of organizational policies and procedures.
  • At least two (2) years' experience in the development of technical manuals that conform to Military Standard 38784 and other Mil Std writing requirements.


SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education: Two-year degree (minimum) in English or technically related field.

Business experience: Military experience in a Radar or Satellite Communications environment, experience reading and reviewing Schematics for general formatting and accuracy, and experience developing technical data packages (TDP) that include Systems Acceptance Tests, Factory Acceptance Tests, Master Document Lists, Build of Materials, Schematics and Engineering Drawings, block diagrams, and Operations and Maintenance manuals.

Computer Skills: Microsoft Visio, Adobe Photoshop, Solidworks, FrameMaker, Arbortext Editor, Creating template guides

Certificates and Licenses: None required

Other Requirements: Technical Manufacturing, Government Contracting, Aviation and/or Defense Industry experience a plus

Physical Factors

Must be able to lift or carry 20lbs.

Working Conditions

This is not a remote position. The department for this position is indoors in an office atmosphere.
