Position Summary
Writing Center Consultants coach writers on their writing processes and their works in progress and develop a variety of strategies for supporting writers. They continue learning about best practices in tutoring writing via reading Writing Center scholarship. Other duties include but are not be limited to maintaining a welcoming Writing Center environment and filling out report forms for tutoring appointments.
Minimum Qualifications
Enrolled in a degree seeking program at UNM, Enrolled at least half-time (6 hours) at UNM for fall and spring semesters (Audit hours do not count), and if Work Study, you must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress.
Preferred Qualifications
Minimum qualifications: Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better if applicable and enrollment in or completion of at least English 1110Z or 1110 or 1120 with a grade of B or higher or the equivalent (such as placement into English 1120).
Preferred: Valued, though not required, in applicants: successful completion of English 1120 and/or Technical Writing, or experience with writing in any language that is not their original language, or interest or experience in any kind of teaching, or facility with computer applications such as googledocs, spreadsheets, or Zoom, or other special experience or skills that could be useful in their tutoring of writing
