Job Summary/Basic Function
The Office Assistant (OA) performs foundational duties of Writing Center functioning. Assists Writing Center Coordinator with a variety of critical tasks, including forwarding phone calls and taking messages from faculty and staff as needed.
Opens the Writing Center and DELC each morning and closes the centers each night (depending on which shift the OA works).
Helps students schedule tutoring sessions, both online and face-to-face.
Helps students log in at front desk when they arrive for sessions.
Serves as liaison between tutor and student to help manage session times and help students choose appropriate tutors for their needs.
Helps students manage their time and sometimes supports students as they consider options for getting appointments or managing due dates.
Supports "customer" relations by helping students get logged on to computers, answering questions, answering the phone.
Organizes and updates the online and printed forms for each Writing Center and DELC station, making copies and doing other office duties as needed.
**This is a pooled position. Applicants are selected from the pool as positions become available. After a period of time the pool will expire and applicants will be notified.
Required Qualifications
Must be a WSU student.
GPA 3.0 or higher.
We hire students from all majors.
Demonstrated writing proficiency.
Interpersonal communication skills important.
Word processing, internet, and e-mailing skills.
Appropriate office organization and customer service skills.
Prefer students who are interested in contributing to the success of others, who seek leadership opportunities, and who wish to use their varied skills and talents to support program goals.
Preferred Qualifications
Willingness and preference for contributing beyond the basic job requirements.
We seek students who wish to exercise new and emerging interpersonal, technical, and leadership skills in a safe and supportive learning environment.
