Roadway Design Department Manager

We are actively seeking a skilled and experienced civil engineering leader to serve as our Roadway Department Manager in St. Louis. As the Department Manager, you will play a key role in our department by leading the Roadway Design team, fostering a collaborative work environment, mentoring team members, and contributing to the department's overall growth and success. This position involves project management and oversight, ensuring timely and budget-compliant delivery of project objectives, while maintaining strong client relationships and adherence to regulatory and quality standards. We provide multi-disciplined services for a variety of public agencies and private entities, including transportation design; water resources design; environmental analysis & permitting; construction engineering & inspection; traffic engineering & transportation planning; surveying; and land acquisition & appraisal. Our transportation design team offers a variety of services, but most of our work involves roadway and bridge design for various local public agencies and state DOT's.

Key responsibilities of this role will include:
- Department Leadership: Lead and manage a team or teams, including engineers and technicians. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members. Foster a positive workplace culture and ensure professional growth and development of department team members. Guide the team to deliver high-quality results. Conduct performance appraisals. Identify staffing needs and actively participate in recruiting and hiring. Ensure effective resource allocation.
- Project Management: Ensure the department's project deliverables are completed on time and within budget. Plan, organize, and direct department activities, including project management, design, and construction oversight. Provide leadership in the planning, design, and execution of major projects. Serve as a project manager on various roadway projects. Perform QC/QA as needed.
- Client and Stakeholder Relations: Develop new client relationships and seek out opportunities for new business. Maintain strong relationships with existing clients. Coordinate with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with regulations and specifications.
- You may also be involved in other various responsibilities and projects in this role.
Qualifications for this role:
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Civil Engineering
- Professional Engineer (PE)
- 12+ years of experience in Roadway/Highway design engineering
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities
- Experience with project management and accounting software
- Exceptional organization skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office products including: Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work individually or as part of a team
