WHAT WE EXPECT OF YOU

SUMMARY
The Director of Media Strategy works closely with the Executive Vice President to grow the NHL's media business and manage day-to-day media-related issues. The Media Department works closely with the League's television and other media partners as well as the 32 NHL member Clubs. In this dynamic role, you will manage relationships and create collaboration among colleagues from other NHL Departments, NHL Club contacts, and external League partners. You will create and implement research projects from start to finish, track and analyze media data and metrics, engage in strategic key decision-making, manage media and broadcast-related issues, and maintain relationships on behalf of the League.

You will:
  • Help support Clubs as they navigate the changing media industry landscape and identify new business opportunities,
  • Support the negotiation of media rights agreements,
  • Participate in the development and implementation of the League's media
    policies and strategies across League platforms,
  • Participate in League oversight and management of each Club's local media rights, and
  • Conduct research and provide analytic support for the projects and priorities of the Media Department.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Build and maintain relationships with media contacts at NHL Clubs and broadcast partners and manage day-to-day business and operational issues
  • Maintain current knowledge and market intelligence about sports media industry issues, including rights and transactions, products, platforms and technological trends for the support of the NHL's media business
  • Track information and maintain internal database of local media deal provisions from all NHL Clubs. Create ad hoc analysis and reporting, as needed
  • Cultivate strong working relationships across NHL departments and lines of businesses and foster cross-departmental collaboration in support of the Media business


QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge Areas/Experience


Required
  • 5+ years of relevant media experience
  • Strong knowledge and passion for the changing media landscape of the US and Canada
  • Strong intellectual curiosity. Must be a quick study on industry trends, new media technologies and business models, and must have an ability to consistently evaluate their relevance to NHL's strategic initiatives
  • Familiarity with economic, legal, product and technical aspects of the video content ecosystem


Preferred
  • Previous experience in sports and/or media industry a plus


Education/Certifications
  • College degree with courses in economics and/or sports management, and with proven academic track record. JD/MBA a plus.

SALARY RANGE:

$150-180K

Actual base pay for a successful candidate will be determined based on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to: experience/training, market demands, and geographic location.
