General Summary of Position
Responsible for the internal communications platform of the hospital to inform and educate associates, physicians, patients, and visitors of important messages and key information around the hospital's cultural and organizational priorities. This is an onsite position full time at St. Mary's Hospital in Leonardtown, MD.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.
  • Coordinates the development and implementation of internal events, such as fairs, Town Hall meetings and Leadership meetings.
  • Develops, updates and maintains employee intranet portal (StarPort) to increase traffic to site and provide strategic associate communication.
  • Implements and disseminates communications related to corporate initiatives at MedStar including tailoring communications from corporate toolkits to meet the needs of our population.
  • Implements and manages communication strategy for hospitals ongoing social media efforts. Oversees MedStar hospital Facebook site, including writing messages and responding to messages as appropriate.
  • Manages all internal communications. Develops ideas, writes and edits various communications.
  • Owns implementation, maintenance and promotion of internal outreach programs.
  • Participates in meetings and on committees and represent the department and hospital in community outreach efforts.
  • Responsible for maintaining internal display screen programming and external digital sign. Maintains President email account and drafts responses to questions for hospital president to send.
  • Serves as departmental liaison on teams/committees, as needed, to support hospital's ongoing service and operational excellence initiatives. Works with teams to develop relevant, effective employee communication, including fliers, newsletters, events, etc.
  • Serves as departmental liaison with Corporate Operational Communications team.
  • Serves as liaison in regards to planning, executing, and promoting internal special events, open houses, and dedications in support of hospital objectives.
  • Strategizes, recommends and implements the hospitals internal communication platform. Serves as the internal communication strategist, and lead writer, for the president and executive team.
  • May supervise marketing intern, including interviewing and selecting appropriate candidate; providing assignments; and completing documents required by universities to fulfill internship when necessary.
  • Works closely with departmental leaders to oversee and fulfill internal project requests, including brochures, signs and other printed materials.
  • May assist leader in support of crisis communication efforts.
  • Maintains graphic standards according to MedStar policy. Works with leader to implement designs and enhancements to hospital collaterals and displays in order to maintain and elevate hospital brand standards.
  • May prepare key date schedule and coordinate copy, art, and production timing for all such collaterals. Reviews, edits, and obtains approval for finished work as well as overseeing and coordinating printing and distribution.
  • May research, write, design, and coordinate photography for associate, external, and physician, and nursing newsletters/collaterals under supervision; ensures timely, relevant, and accurate communication to staff, physicians and volunteers.
  • May support marketing team with communications/collaterals related to hospital and hospital-affiliated physicians. Works with team to identify key physicians and develops internal and external strategic marketing/communications plans to support physicians/service lines. May develop content for the plasma screen programming and external digital signs. May manage the on-hold messaging system for hospital.

    Minimum Qualifications
    Education
    • Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Journalism, English, Communication, Marketing, or related field. required or
    • Master's degree preferred

    Experience
    • 5-7 years Communications or related experience required and
    • Healthcare experience preferred

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
    • Comprehensive understanding and expertise of all aspects related to effective, strategic communications with an emphasis on writing, editing, and project management.
    • Must also have an understanding of publication production (development, schedules, etc.).
    • Creativity and ability to organize and handle many details.
    • Ability to work independently as a self-directed individual and as part of a team.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

    This position has a hiring range of $80,995.00 - $152,027.00
