DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:

  • May perform consecutive interpreting and simultaneous interpreting to provide accurate renditions of informal to highly formal discourse remotely and in person.
  • Conveys the meaning of the source language, reflecting the style, register, and cultural context of the source message without omissions, additions or embellishments in a verbal and/or written manner.
  • May provide summarization of the source language over a chat application in real time.
  • May support interpretation and translation needs at off-site meetings and/or outside of standard business hours as required.
  • Translates and reviews technical documents, online content, and business correspondence.
  • Monitors daily communication posted to intra-company online systems and translates relevant content related to ongoing support issues; identifies and shares significant information.
  • Proofs and assesses the quality of translation work, providing feedback as necessary to maintain translation quality and correct use of terminology.
  • Collaborates with document authors and engineers in a development environment to drive improvement initiatives, by identifying issues and recommending process improvements
  • As a subject matter expert, proposes best practices regarding localized content based on understanding of Japanese/US localization issues.
  • Utilizes CAT tools, machine translation, and termbases to translate, post-edit, and format content in a uniform manner that delivers on customer expectations with minimal oversight.
  • Leads in coordinating and conducting internal team development initiatives and mentors other team members in developing their linguistic skills.
  • May be asked to proof, review, and edit material prepared by other employees and contractors for content, including executive/public facing.
  • Creates and maintains best-practice instructions, reference documentation, guidelines.


SUMMARY OF REQUIREMENTS:

  • Five (5) plus years related experience.
  • Interpreting and translation expertise in areas such as programming concepts; manufacturing, quality control, and repair of product hardware; consumer service support; information technology; legal matters (such as contracts, IP, marketing, corporate social responsibility (CSR).
  • Excellent written and verbal fluency in English and Japanese required.
  • Experience using CAT tools, machine translation, termbases, various document publishing software, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio); Adobe products preffered (FrameMaker, Acrobat)
  • PC experience (MS Office).
  • Solid understanding of tagged file formats such as XML/HTML.
  • Understanding of high-level programming languages and concepts.
  • Able to translate technical programming and hardware manufacturing documentation as well as general content into the style appropriate for the target audience.
  • Simultaneous interpreting experience strongly preferred.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, highly-confidential environment with fluctuating priorities and deadlines.
  • Undergraduate degree in Linguistics, Business, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
  • Master's degree in Translation and Interpretation preferred
  • Japanese-Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) N1 certification or equivalent capability

This position is hybrid in Redmond, WA. Hybrid positions require regular onsite work following the schedule and guidelines for their division. This position is not open to fully remote status at this time.
