Broadcast Engineer

WXIA/WATL, the TEGNA-owned NBC and MyNetworkTV affiliates in Atlanta, GA, have an opening for a Broadcast Engineer. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated a thorough understanding of broadcast technologies and operational models within a 24/7 broadcast operation; ideally in local news production and field operations. This position will be responsible for installing and maintaining video, audio, RF, and other systems associated with television broadcasting. Our engineering department is dedicated to providing our internal customer departments and viewers with exceptional service

Responsibilities:

  • SDI Video infrastructure; Routers, DAs. Frame Syncs, De-Embedders, Embedders
  • Live production support; Production Switchers, Audio Boards, Intercom systems
  • Maintaining RF systems; ATSC Solid State Transmitters, Microwave links, Satellite dishes, L-Band Routers, IRDs, Compusat, CCTV
  • Compression and ASI transport streams
  • Power systems; transfer switches, UPS, generators
  • Mobile SAT truck operation and troubleshooting
  • Field Production Support
  • Newsroom systems maintenance (ENPS, Bitcentral, SONY ELC)
  • Leading projects in all phases; design, design review, BOM creation, purchase, installation, configuration, user acceptance testing, and implementation
  • Creation of video / audio / control systems drawings in Visio or CAD
  • Understanding of IP networking protocols.
  • Working with Virtual Machines
  • Windows Administration skills
  • Windows Active Directory
  • Automation control systems
  • Emergency Alert Systems
  • Maintaining compliance with FCC rules and regulations
  • IP video is desirable (SMPTE 2110, NDI)
  • Light building maintenance; i.e. install shelving, replace bulbs, hang monitors, install light fixtures, first response to HVAC or plumbing issues


Requirements:

  • Strong customer service skills
  • Minimum 5 years in Television Engineering
  • Ability to work in a team environment or independently as needed
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills (ability to clearly communicate the status of problems, provide updates to progress on projects, and offer solutions to technical issues).
  • Innovation skills. Identify areas for improvement and present plans to do so
  • Associate degree (AA) in electronics, related field or work experience in lieu of degree.
  • Ability to work under pressure and deadlines.
  • Availability to work various hours and days including weekends, overnights, and holidays as needed.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects at once
