Cabarrus County Government announces the launch of our newly developed internship program. Interested in local government careers but not sure how to get started. The Cabarrus County Internship Program is a great way to learn about local government from some of the County's top talent.

Cabarrus County Internship Program offers students and recent graduates from diverse academic backgrounds the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with Cabarrus County Government through internship opportunities.

The purpose of this internship is to provide meaningful professional public administration experience to collegiate students with proven academic performance and a strong desire to learn and contribute.

Interns at Cabarrus County get career relevant hands-on learning opportunities in the local government sector and a meaningful internship experience that will support their academic, professional and personal development. Interns receive mentorship from some of Cabarrus County's top leaders.

We provide exciting opportunities in a variety of fields including:

Library System

Active Living and Parks

Compensation: $15 per hour worked (internships are not eligible for benefits)
Schedule: Part-time Mon - Friday 8 am - 5 pm - hours and days will vary. Exact schedule, including remote work if available to be worked out with assigned department.
Duration: Six-month duration. Ability to extend beyond the six-month requirement will depend on department needs and availability of funds.

  • Completes special projects as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Eligibility Requirements
  • Applicants must be a recent graduate or currently attending an accredited college, university, law school, community college or technical institute.
  • Applicants must carry a 2.5 or greater overall grade point average on a 4.0 scale.
  • Applicant must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Applicants must be willing and able to work for the entire internship assignment period.
  • Applicants must be able to provide legal proof of identity and work authorization within three working days of employment.
  • Recent graduates are defined as completing all requirements for an associates, bachelors, masters, professional, doctorate, vocational, or technical degree or certificate from a qualifying educational institution within the previous two (2) years.


In addition to gaining practical workplace skills and experience in a variety of professional areas, interns are effectively introduced to career options with Cabarrus County Government. Cabarrus County Government does not guarantee job place at the end of the internship term. We do encourage and welcome interns to apply to available positions with Cabarrus County Government at the end of their internship.

Physical Requirements:

This is sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, and determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions.
