KXTV, ABC10 is seeking a passionate Chief Photojournalist to lead our team of Visual Journalist & Storytellers across all platforms. This dynamic leader will oversee our team of Visual Journalist & Storytellers along with all content creators to tell emotional and memorable stories.

We are seeking a Chief Photojournalist who thrives on innovation and is always exploring the latest tools and techniques to create compelling stories. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and capable of managing equipment, news vehicles, and setting operating procedures. We are in search of a visionary Chief Photojournalist who will elevate our video storytelling to new heights. This leader will inspire excellence, mentor with a "coaching not fixing "philosophy and partner with news managers to recruit, hire, and train news team members.

Salary Range:$85,000 - $95,000

Responsibilities:
  • Set standards and procedures for storytelling team.
  • Maintain equipment, news vehicles, stock and storage of all news supplies and equipment including ordering some equipment.
  • Collaborate with Director of Content and Engineering to set safety standards for all news gathering purposes.
  • Ensure all Visual Journalists & Storytellers, and multi-skilled journalists receive comprehensive training.
  • Lead teams during remote and live production for daily news operation and special events.
  • Provide continuous feedback, coaching, and training to Visual Journalist & Storytellers and multi-skilled journalists.
  • Deliver yearly performance reviews.
  • Shoot and edit VOs, VO-SOTs and packages for broadcast and digital platforms. Work in the field as a Visual Journalist & Storyteller as needed.


Requirements:
  • BA/BS in journalism, communications, or related field preferred
  • 5-7 years of management experience preferred.
  • Experience in photojournalism, editing, and content management systems is highly desirable.
  • Proven ability to generate creative, engaging, content-driven live shots.
  • Understanding the tenets of professional journalism
  • Strong knowledge base of ENG cameras, lenses, DSLR and other equipment used by news staff.
  • Knowledge of ENPS, Edius and Axis graphics preferred.
  • SNG/ENG experience is highly desirable.
  • Must be flexible with schedule.
  • Certification as a drone pilot, strongly preferred.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to work under constant time pressure deadlines.
  • Ability to calmly handle live, breaking news situations and fast-paced changing events.
  • Must have a proven history of effective team management,
  • Previous newsroom experience required.
  • Able to carry up to 50 pounds of equipment.
  • Can work in all weather conditions.
  • Must have and maintain a safe driving record and a valid driver's license at all times and be able to operate large vehicles.
