About the role:

We are looking for a Product Designer to join our dynamic product development team. In this high-impact role, you'll have the unique opportunity to shape the future of the rapidly growing, multi-billion-dollar creator industry. Whalar is a unique player in this space, fostering an in-house product development team of over 60 professionals dedicated to defining the future of creator tools—the operating system for creators. You will be part of our design team, reporting to the Director of Design.

Here's what you'll do day to day:
  • Lead Design-Heavy Projects: Drive complex, design-intensive projects from concept through to completion.
  • User Experience Design: Map and design user experiences for our key products, ensuring a seamless and intuitive journey for users.
  • Collaborate on User Insights: Work closely with product owners to identify customer challenges, leveraging data on user types, behaviors, scenarios, needs, expectations, and the anticipated impact of our solutions.
  • Prototype and Iterate: Create wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs, iterating based on user feedback and data to ensure clear design intent.
  • Development Integration: Partner with development teams to ensure seamless integration of designs, coordinating visual and UX QA to maintain high standards.
  • Design Pattern Development: Frame and plan new design patterns that align with both industry and platform standards.
  • Design System Maintenance: Build and maintain our design system, ensuring its adoption and continuous evolution to meet product needs and industry best practices.
  • Specification and Guidelines Writing: Write clear specifications for new features and components and define usage guidelines to ensure product consistency.
  • Agile Development Support: Support the development team in an agile environment to ensure the fastest possible implementation of designs without compromising quality.
  • Mentor and Guide: Mentor junior team members, providing guidance and support to help them grow and excel.
  • Generative Research Collaboration: Collaborate with product owners to conduct mixed-method generative research, including interviews, workshops, surveys, analytics, competitive analysis, and A/B testing.
Here's what we're looking for:
  • Experience: 6+ years of experience in product design with a strong portfolio showcasing user-centric digital experiences.
  • Tools: Proficiency in UX/UI tools such as Figma and Miro, with experience in prototyping tools of choice and the ability to learn new software quickly.
  • Research: Experience conducting user research and testing, translating insights into actionable solutions.
  • Collaboration: Experience working within fast-paced, agile development teams. Excellent communication and collaboration skills are essential in our fully remote team. A knack for giving and receiving constructive feedback is a must.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills and a talent for turning complex problems into simple, elegant solutions.
  • Proactive Mindset: A self-starter attitude with the ability to make things happen with limited direction.
  • Communication: Strong communication skills in English.

This position is remote first with the expectation of being in NYC when needed. We believe this set up offers the opportunity for flexibility and collaboration. Our preference is for you to be located within the New York tri-state area, however, we would not rule out other areas of the east coast for the right candidate.

The salary range for this role is $100,000 - $140,000 and serves as a general guideline reflecting the potential compensation for the role. The final salary offer will be determined based on a comprehensive evaluation of factors such as the candidate's region, experience, expertise, alignment with the position's requirements, and, ultimately budget approvals.
