Job Description
Responsibilities
Perform on site surveys
Design systems in accordance with NFPA and project specifications. Participate in the review process with other design team members and drafters, as requested by management
Using software such as AutoCAD, develop floor plans, riser diagrams, schematics, system power calculations, and control panel layouts
Review all designs before submitting for approval to ensure they meet Company's quality standard and code requirements
Follow all Company's policies and procedures during daily work activities
Work independently or with others as a team to complete all tasks and related design functions. Routinely work with sales and project managers to ensure the most efficient design while maintaining the highest quality standards
Assist and provide feedback to the sales and project managers for organizing, planning, and prioritizing work
Assist management in developing and implementing a quality service program to increase efficiencies and proficiencies for the design and engineering department
Visit ongoing projects as needed
Qualification:
High School diploma or equivalent is required
Applicable degree from a technical school or college is a plus
Valid Drivers License
Minimum of three to five years of experience designing commercial fire detection systems
Minimum NICET Level II-certification in Fire Alarm, with plans to obtain Level III
Strong working knowledge of fire protection codes and operations
Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD and other software programs required to perform job
Proficient in the understanding of current NFPA 72 inspection, testing, and troubleshooting requirements
Familiarity with and the ability to read, interpret, and apply NFPA 70, NFPA 72, NFPA 101, and International Fire Code (IFC)
Ability to read and interpret fire alarm project drawings and specifications
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Strong leadership and time management skills; and the ability to multi-task
Able to travel by air and/or ground overnight, as necessary
Strong social skills, specifically in the areas of service, coordination, persuasion, and instruction
Technical skills, and an understanding of fire suppression and security design a plus

Technical Certification Bonus: Synectics is pleased to award its employees a bonus of up to $500 for an approved professional certification. In determining the bonus amount, Synectics will consider the cost of the test(s) for any certification relating to your current position, achieved during your employment with us. Only one Certification Bonus per calendar year may be awarded per employee. Only current, active employees will be eligible to receive this bonus. It will be awarded 90 days after the Synectics office has received documentation confirming the successful completion of the certification.
