Our teams are united by a passion for crafting stories that matter. We foster an inclusive, collaborative environment where all voices contribute to the creative process. Every project is driven by integrity, open-mindedness, and a dedication to delivering meaningful work.
Role
The Design Director is a key player in program leadership, responsible for bringing an elevated visual design aesthetic, conceptual thought process, and design leadership to a key client account, Google, as well as other projects and teams. Reporting to the Executive Creative Director, this role involves collaborating with cross-functional client teams and creatives to produce compelling visual communications that align with program objectives.
You are an inspiring, hands-on leader, maker, and creative problem-solver with strong communication and craft-based design skills. You lead by example in thinking systematically, designing holistically, and collaborating with positivity; setting a high bar for the team and nurturing and developing their skills.
The Design Director will support studio-wide projects with a focus on growing the Google account, a talented creative team whose core function is storytelling through collaborative concepting and creation of animated videos, illustration, and design content. The Design Director will play a key role in establishing ongoing client relationships and will work closely with leadership to scope and pitch new Google programs.
Opportunity
Lead and grow the studio's design capabilities for the Google account across deliverables such as branding, graphic treatments, illustration, and design for motion (including complex storyboards for animation and live-action video). Showcase exceptional visual design expertise and an elevated aesthetic. Provide leadership and mentorship to the design team. Act as a hands-on creative leader, developing compelling ideas and executing them from concept to completion. Shape concepts, craft treatments, build prototypes, and inform art direction. Collaborate with producers, creative directors, designers, writers, and animators. Offer design critiques and feedback across studio projects. Master brand guidelines and systems to support active Google clients and teams. Foster trust and build strong client relationships. Partner closely with the Director of Creative Production overseeing the Google account. Be proactive, detail-oriented, innovative, and curious. Thrive in a collaborative, low-ego environment. Have fun, contribute to a culture of integrity, and dream big. Responsibilities
Develop a strong POV on how creative solutions align with business needs for ongoing Google partners, playing a critical role in shaping and growing the account. Lead motion video projects with design elements such as title sequences, storyboards, illustrations, animation concepts, and typography treatments. Collaborate with the ECD, Creative Directors, Executive Producers, and Senior Producers to define project roadmaps, offering insights into timelines and overall approach. Mentor and provide constructive feedback to designers through regular internal reviews. Contribute to new business pitches and present ideas effectively to clients as needed. Help the design team prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Develop conceptual ideas for brand identity work and present them clearly to stakeholders. Create comprehensive design systems, including logos, fonts, colors, graphic treatments, swag, and templates, within established brand guidelines. Lead client presentations alongside the ECD, Creative Directors, and design team, while overseeing all presentation materials. Stay engaged in learning new tools and technologies, such as GenAI and LLMs, to enhance traditional workflows. Requirements (Skills & Experience)
A minimum of 5-7 years of experience in design roles at an agency or in-house. Relevant portfolio showcasing brand identity, illustration, design for motion (both animation and live-action video), and integrated campaign identity or visual centers. Direct experience offering mentorship or design leadership. A passion for hands-on design craft. Strong storytelling skills with an ability to generate multiple, unique directions. Excellent communication skills and an ability to articulate ideas and present creative work. Ability to work proficiently both autonomously and in highly collaborative environments while balancing multiple projects. Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects and meet tight deadlines. Proven expertise in design software and tools, including Figma, and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign). Experience in After Effects, Premiere, and 3D a big plus, but not required. A desire to push creative boundaries and explore new technologies. Able to work effectively with remote team members. Experience working with tech clients and digital products is a plus. Additional Notes
This position is open to candidates in Oregon and California. This position requires a background check.
