Position Summary:

The Department of Visual Arts & Art History seeks an Assistant Professor to teach and develop courses at undergraduate and graduate levels and perform creative research in Graphic Design. The position will be based at the Fort Lauderdale campus. The successful candidate should have knowledge in industry-standard software, tools, and emerging technologies and ways in which they can be integrated into the curriculum. The candidate is expected to bring a critical position on the ethics and responsible use of emerging technologies, such as AI. Interdisciplinary initiatives that lead to collaborative grants with other departments and colleges are encouraged. The standard teaching load is five courses per year. The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in a structured undergraduate sequence, including Visual Design, Typographic Design, and Interactive Design, as well as more thematically focused courses for students in the department’s BFA and MFA programs. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in graduate committees and eventually serve as advisor to students in the department’s MFA and the college’s Ph.D. programs. Faculty assignments include committee and other service to the department, the college, and the university.

Summary of Responsibilities:

Responsible to the Department Chair and other administrators of the university.

Responsible for teaching, research, service, and related administrative activities per annual assignment.

Responsible for academic advising and related activities.

May represent the university, college, or department on university and/or Statewide committees.

Minimum Qualifications:

PhD, MDes, or MFA in Graphic Design, Design, Visual Communication Design, Interaction Design, Design history, theory, + criticism, or closely related areas discipline.

Preferred qualifications:

Experience both in teaching and professional design work are strongly preferred.

The selected candidate for this position is required to submit an official transcript sent directly from the institution for the Provost’s credential file prior to the first day of employment.
