Job Description:
The Technical Writer/Editor reports to the Director of the Office of Research Advancement (ORA). The Technical Writer/Editor provides substantive editing support for competitive grant proposals and serves as a resource to enhance the development of proposals and research-related activities.
Job Responsibilities:
Technical Editing: Serve as a principal editor for selected, high-priority, complex, multi-disciplinary research proposals and related documents. Provide technical writing and editing assistance to University faculty in the development of grant proposals, which involves researching subject matter, developing/revising content, ensuring all sponsor requirements and competitive criteria are met, and providing final document proofing/editing before submission. Provide ad hoc editing (technical and otherwise) for various other ORED initiatives. (70%).
Proposal Development: Develop, collect, and/or maintain ancillary materials to aid the university and ORED. Examples include assisting with collecting documents, reviewing ancillary materials, organizing reviews, facilitating funding opportunities, and coordinating with central and departmental administrators. (15%)
Training and Outreach: Develop and execute workshops and presentations on various aspects of proposal development (e.g., broader impacts of proposals, editing techniques, funding agency guidelines, etc.). (10%)
Other duties as assigned. (5%)
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of experience; Proven ability to work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines and handle multiple projects while working with and interacting with individuals at multiple skill and professional levels. Ability to learn new software/programs quickly (e.g., InfoReady, Overleaf, Moodle).
Preferred Qualifications:
Ph.D and five (5) years of experience; Strong familiarity with scientific language/concepts.
Additional Information:
Must meet the University's minimum qualifications to operate a motor vehicle while conducting LSU business. Due to the nature of the position and/or position responsibilities this position shall be subject to drug/alcohol testing in accordance with University Policy Statement 67. A valid Driver's License is required.
Physical Demands:
Physical ability and eye-hand coordination necessary to use a computer terminal, copier, telephone and other standard office equipment; ability to sit in the same position for extended periods (5.5+ hours a day) at a time using continuous hand motions when entering data into the computer system.
