The Position
The College seeks a full-time, tenure-track Faculty Services Librarian dedicated to promoting and supporting the textbook affordability solutions program that includes but is not limited to Open Educational Resources (OER) and Zero-Textbook-Cost (ZTC). The ideal candidate will share the College’s commitment to educating a racially and socioeconomically diverse student population and closing education equity gaps.
The primary responsibility of this position is to work closely with faculty and staff members college-wide to provide focused support for the planning, promotion, and expansion of textbook affordability solutions at Skyline College that include OER, ZTC, and additional activities. As part of the Academic Support & Learning Technologies division, the Faculty Services Librarian is an integral member of the ZTC Taskforce, and primarily serves instructional faculty in all disciplines taught at the college. This librarian will play a significant role in the electronic and print collection development efforts of the Library ensuring that the collection directly supports the curriculum and textbook affordability solutions which focus on equitable learning experiences for all community college students. This position requires self-direction, flexibility, the ability to work well with others as part of a team, and the ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment. This assignment may include evening and weekend hours.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide vision, leadership, advocacy, and focused support for the inclusion of textbook affordability solutions such as Open Educational Resources (OER) and Zero Textbook Cost (ZTC) materials in all disciplines taught at the college.
- Supports development and adoption of OER and ZTC materials as a member of the ZTC team with activities that may include: delivery of workshops for faculty; one-on-one consultation to help faculty identify appropriate materials for inclusion or adaptation, navigate online systems, vet materials for copyright and fair use guidelines, and various outreach activities to promote OER/ZTC development and adoption on campus.
- Assists with the coordination of the Textbook Affordability Solutions program’s activities which may include outreach and communication with faculty, chairs, coordinators, and other stakeholders on campus; maintaining clear records of projects-in-progress; and helping with the development of workflows and best practices.
- Develop, assess, and revise workshops and professional development that align with a focus on equity and access related to textbook affordability solutions.
- Collaborate with discipline experts to ensure that library print and electronic resources support the curricular requirements of each department, and ensure that relevant materials complement programs, degrees, and certificates as well as individual courses and subject areas specific to Skyline College.
- Assists in the creation and maintenance of a Digital Repository/Catalog of adopted OER/ZTC materials, policies, and workflows associated with adoption.
- Assist faculty with curating, remixing, and authoring content that supports curriculum development, learning outcomes, and assessments.
- Participates in grants relevant to the program, serves on College committees as necessary to maintain and improve instructional programs, and engages in ongoing professional development activities related to the role.
- Establishes strategic partnerships with the Center for Transformative Teaching and Learning and other departments and programs by identifying outreach opportunities, developing and implementing instructional activities and services, and assessing outcomes.
- Collaborates with the Disabled Resource Center and the Online Learning program to address OER/ZTC accessibility and compliance.
- Participates in district and committee discussions related to open and affordable course content to ensure ongoing communication and collaboration with involved constituencies.
- Identify and implement new methods, including emerging technologies, for increasing student, faculty, and staff awareness of library services, collections, and textbook affordability solutions that include Open Educational Resources and Zero Textbook Cost materials.
- Stay abreast of current trends, tools, and technologies to move the textbook affordability solutions program forward.
- Maintain scheduled office and campus hours, and participate in department/division meetings and committees.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree or above in library science, library and information science, or the equivalent.
- Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to, and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, neurodivergent, and LGBTQIA+ backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice both within and outside of the classroom.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Extensive knowledge of open educational resources (OER), Zero Textbook Cost (ZTC) and other textbook affordability strategies and initiatives.
- Familiarity with copyright law, open licensing options, fair use, author rights, archiving rights, institutional repositories, scholarly publishing, and related issues.
- Demonstrated knowledge of emerging technology trends related to student success, online learning, digital scholarship, and/or digital pedagogy.
- Awareness of Accessibility requirements for websites and digital sources.
- Familiarity with California legislation related to OERs (e.g., SB 1359, AB 798, SB 1053).
- Working knowledge of online education and experience with learning management systems.
- Demonstrated experience in implementation and technical support of research resources and learning technologies such as databases, integrated library systems, discovery layers, VR, simulation equipment, etc.
- Passion and enthusiasm for the role of libraries in the community college.
- Ability to self-motivate, prioritize, and effectively multi-task in a dynamic and flexible environment.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including engaging presentation skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Experience delivering training and other instructional services in synchronous and asynchronous modalities.
- Experience planning, implementing, and evaluating programs and services.
- Experience supervising or coordinating paraprofessionals or student employees.
- Demonstrated ability to write grants, manage projects, and/or coordinate events.
- Demonstrated ability to assume leadership roles, developing programs, and/or engagement in participatory governance.
- Perform and fulfill other related duties and responsibilities as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- American Library Association (ALA) accredited Master’s degree in Library Science or Library Information Science.
- Experience with reference, instruction, and collection development for certificate and degree programs.
- Working knowledge of OER & ZTC content, resources, applications and concepts such as intellectual property, copyright, fair use, and academic publishing practices.
