Key Responsibilities:
- Library Management:
- Oversee the daily operations of the library media center, including the organization and maintenance of library materials.
- Develop and manage the library budget, ensuring the acquisition of new books, resources, and technology.
- Maintain accurate records of library inventory, circulation, and usage.
- Instructional Support:
- Collaborate with teachers to integrate library resources and information literacy skills into the curriculum.
- Teach students how to locate, evaluate, and use information effectively.
- Conduct library orientation sessions and provide instruction on the use of library resources and technology.
- Promoting Reading and Literacy:
- Foster a love of reading and lifelong learning among students and staff.
- Organize and promote reading programs, book fairs, author visits, and other literacy events.
- Curate a diverse and inclusive collection of books and resources that reflect the interests and needs of the school community.
- Technology Integration:
- Support the integration of technology into teaching and learning.
- Provide training and support for students and staff on the use of digital resources, research databases, and educational technology tools.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and digital tools that can enhance learning and library services.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with teachers, administrators, and other staff to support the educational goals of the school.
- Communicate regularly with students, staff, and parents about library programs, resources, and events.
- Participate in school and district committees, meetings, and professional development opportunities.
- Student Support:
- Assist students with research projects, reading selection, and use of library resources.
- Create a welcoming and inclusive library environment where all students feel supported and encouraged.
- Provide individualized support to students with diverse learning needs.
Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Library Science, Information Science, or a related field.
- Valid state certification as a School Library Media Specialist.
- Previous experience in a school library setting preferred.
- Strong knowledge of children's and young adult literature, information literacy, and educational technology.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and engage with students in a positive manner.
- Proficiency in the use of library management systems and digital resources.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit, stand, and move freely for extended periods.
- Capacity to lift and move books and library equipment as necessary.
- Ability to supervise and interact with students in the library setting.
Work Environment:
- Work is performed in a library/media center setting.
- Occasional evening and weekend work may be required for school events and meetings.
