Job Description:
This position provides support for the services necessary to keep the Access Services department running smoothly, such as stacks maintenance, the monitoring of the online chat service, and the opening and closing of the library on Saturdays.
Work schedule while classes are in session is 11:30 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 9:30 a.m.-5:15 p.m. on Saturdays. Flexibility to work varied shifts is required during final exams and intersession periods.
A desirable candidate will have the ability to work with limited direct supervision and adapt easily to a frequently changing information environment; be able to provide excellent customer service in a busy environment to a diverse and broad group of internal customers with varying backgrounds, needs, and identities; be able to communicate successfully and inclusively, both in writing and verbally, with a diverse audience; and will be able to manage multiple tasks and assign work.
Job Responsibilities:
45% Oversees the maintenance of all stacks under Circulation Services care except those in reserves. Searches for lost and missing books. Supervises and assists in the physical re-arrangement of the stacks to accommodate new acquisitions. Monitors the quality of the work of students assigned tasks related to everyday stacks maintenance, such as book pick-ups, carrel sweeps, pulling damaged books etc. and reports performance problems to the student coordinator. Responsible for updating physical signage and online wayfinding systems, including the StackMap spreadsheets provided by the vendor. Serves as liaison to StackMap vendor representative to troubleshoot problems with the software.
30% Opens and closes the building on Saturdays, performing security checks while the building is open. Staffs the Access Services Desk on Saturdays and at other times as necessary to insure coverage.
20% Monitors chat service and responds to patron inquires in real-time late afternoons and on Saturdays.
5% Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree.
One year library or relevant work experience.
Library experience should include shelving work. Other relevant experience should include working with the public.
Preferred Qualifications:
Two or more years of relevant work experience
