General Statement of Job
Under limited supervision, responsible for the maintenance, operation, and chemical management of the pool, as well as the upkeep of the aquatic facility grounds and related equipment. Assists with the management of part-time staff. Reports to the Recreation & Leisure Services Supervisor and/or Recreation Specialist.
Essential Duties
Opens facility and inspects the pool grounds/facility for overall condition and safety.
Monitors the maintenance of the facility, including equipment, grounds, and water chemistry. Performs routine maintenance of the pool and grounds, as well as minor repairs on pool equipment, including vacuums, pumps, filters, and chemical feeders.
Maintains open and positive communication with staff and outside vendors.
Receives, reviews, prepares, and submits records and maintains various chemicals and maintenance logs.
Oversees pools and splash pad by maintaining proper water chemistry by testing, balancing and adjusting chemicals as needed to comply with health and safety standards; as well as cleaning and vacuuming.
Monitor the operation of all mechanical and electrical equipment related to the pool, including HVAC systems, pumps, heaters, and filtration systems.
Schedule and oversee regular servicing and repairs of equipment to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
Maintains inventory of maintenance equipment and supplies.
Operates a variety of pool equipment, including pool vacuums, pumps, and controllers.
Operates vehicles, hand and power tools and a variety of office equipment.
Exercises care and safety in the use of assigned equipment and vehicles.
Wears proper safety equipment when performing tasks.
Additional Job Functions
Works at customer service desk as necessary.
Assists with event set-up and break-down and the daily management of programs, events.
Performs related duties as required.
Minimum Education and Training
Requires HS diploma or GED equivalent and four years of experience in Parks & Recreation, Education or related field; that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must possess CPR/AED/First Aid certifications and have the ability to obtain Aquatic Facility Operator Certification within 6 months of hire. Must possess and maintain a valid state of Florida driver's license. Must possess or obtain the most current FEMA 100, 200, and 700 Incident Command System certifications within 6 months of appointment to the job.
Minimum Qualifications and Standards Required
Skill Requirements:
Has thorough knowledge of the methods, procedures and policies of the Parks and Recreation Department as they pertain to the performance of duties of the Aquatic Center Technician. Has thorough knowledge of the organization of the department and of related departments and agencies. Has knowledge of the functions and interrelationships of the City and other governmental agencies. Is knowledgeable in the laws, ordinances, standards and regulations pertaining to the specific duties and responsibilities of the position. Has knowledge in the areas of pool management and maintenance, aquatic programming, facilities maintenance and budget administration.
Has knowledge of applicable occupational hazards and safety precautions. Has knowledge of and skill in the application of CPR, First Aid and First Responder techniques. Is able to maintain constant awareness of the activities and behavior of pool guests in order to ensure their safety. Is able to enforce safety rules and regulations among guests and employees. Knows how to react calmly and quickly in emergency situations. Is able to make sound, educated decisions. Has the ability to plan and develop daily, short- and long-term goals related to City purposes. Is able to help ensure departmental compliance with all laws and regulations and contract activities of the department through effective supervision. Has the ability to offer instruction and advice to subordinates regarding departmental policies, methods and regulations. Has the ability to offer training and assistance to co-workers and employees of other departments as required. Has the ability to plan, organize and prioritize daily assignments and work activities. Has the ability to learn and utilize new skills and information to improve job performance and efficiency. Is able to read and interpret complex materials pertaining to the responsibilities of the job.
Is able to assemble and analyze information and make written reports and records in a concise, clear and effective manner. Has comprehensive knowledge of the terminology and various professional languages used within the department. Knows how to maintain effective relationships with personnel of other departments, professional and members of the public through contact and cooperation. Has knowledge of proper English usage, vocabulary, spelling and basic mathematics. Has knowledge of modern office practices and technology. Has knowledge of and skill in the use of computers for data and work processing.
Physical Requirements:
Must be physically able to operate pool maintenance equipment and a variety of office equipment including a computer, adding machine, telephone, etc. Tasks involve the ability to exert moderate, though not constant, physical effort, typically involving some combination of remaining on feet for extended periods of time climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds) to moderately heavy weight (up to 50 pounds). Must be able to swim, dive, demonstrate swimming skills, and perform CPR and First Aid procedures.
Responsibilities:
Exercises analytical judgment in areas of responsibility. Ability to cooperate and work with supervisors, administration and departmental members, as well as other city departments. Responsible for the safety and general operations within the division including proper use of equipment. Accountable for work tasks and assignments within the division.
Working Conditions:
Is able to work in adverse conditions, including exposure to extreme heat or cold, wetness, humidity, pollen, disease, machinery hazards, harmful rays of the sun, noise, toxic agents, swimming / water hazards, etc.
