Position Information Position Availability: Immediately Position Title: FWS Student Assistant Specialist: Reporting & Writing Requisition Number: 0406073480 Location New York City Position Type: Student Department: SPE/Dean's Office Responsibilities: The First-Gen College Access Project at the Center for New York City Affairs is seeking a skilled researcher and writer, ideally with journalism skills, to help run editorial operations at our new website at UnderstandingFAFSA.org. The website and a twice-monthly email newsletter are focused on helping first-generation students and college access counselors understand and navigate our nation's complicated and confusing financial aid process. We work closely with students and counselors to design, craft, and test materials with the goal of making college financial aid easy to understand. This is an ideal position for a student with a passion for writing and communications who is interested in helping first-generation college students and all families navigate the FAFSA and financial aid, avoid too much college debt and get as much free money for college as possible. You will be contributing by-lined items each week to our website and newsletter and helping to write teasers to promote your work on social media. This is an ideal position for a student interested in making a name for themselves in service or financial journalism or for writers interested in social justice in higher education. It is also an excellent opportunity for future educators. This work-study position is for 10-20 hours per week with flexibility around the semester schedule. All work and meetings can be remote, though we hope to organize in-person team meetings occasionally. This is a federal work-study position with the possibility of evolving into a permanent student position. Responsibilities include: Assist Project Director and team in researching and writing blog content and curriculum for the website, including short "how-to" blogs and infographics, instructional materials and financial aid tools written simply for students and their families. Assist Project Director and team in the research and development of fun, sharp-looking financial aid counseling materials designed to make the FAFSA and financial aid process easy to understand for anyone. Help write, edit and proof our twice-monthly newsletter blasts and social media outreach work. Help with Mailchimp layout, setup, and email promotion work.
