The Journalism Lab is a dynamic digital platform dedicated to exploring and advancing the principles of ethical journalism and critical media analysis. The lab aims to foster a deeper understanding of journalism's role in shaping society by engaging in critical discussions and hands-on student projects that explore both historical and contemporary issues in media. Our goal is to examine journalism through a lens of social justice, equity, and innovation. It provides a platform for students, researchers, and community members to engage in meaningful dialogue and contribute to the evolution of journalism. Explore, create, and impact the future of media with us. The Journalism Lab is seeking a creative, curious, responsible and detail oriented individual for editorial and design support for 15 hours per week. This individual should display a professional demeanor, the skills to work collaboratively, and the ability to meet deadlines effectively. The applicant must possess strong organizational skills, punctuality, and an ability to work independently. A high level of journalism skills in research, writing and design are preferred. This position offers a flexible work schedule with a high expectation of reliability. This role is an opportunity to acquire hands-on experience in editing, design, and non-profits and build proficiency in content creation, editing, and digital communication

RESPONSIBILITIES

General responsibilities include:

? Assist in editing content for The Journalism Lab.

? Work with contributors to finalize content.

? Create design elements for the platform.

? Layout content on the website site.

? Collaborate on audience engagement strategies.

? Provide additional support for media advocacy and journalism innovation initiatives as needed.

Student must have work study award for this position

Hourly Rate - $20.00

Workmode - Hybrid

Minimum Qualifications:

? Currently enrolled student at The New School with at least one year of journalism and design experience

? Experience with news and web design

? Knowledge of the industry standards for journalism ethics

? Strong writing skills to communicate effectively with community

? Professional demeanor and punctuality

? Demonstrate ability to prioritize, manage diverse activities, and meet deadlines

? Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

? Reporting and writing experience

? Adeptness with web design and news production

? Interest in a position that has the potential to extend across fall and spring semesters

? Genuine enthusiasm for journalism as a public good.

? Pleasant demeanor and positive, can-do attitude

? Familiar with issues specific to journalism, the practice and the industry.
