Purpose:
The University of Texas at Austin seeks a Web Designer to design and build web sites, mobile apps, and work in and add elements to third-party applications. The position requires strong UX/UI, design and web skills. The successful candidate will have a background that includes a wide range of design and web skills and the ability to expertly work within several website content management systems (CMSs) and applications. The position will create and oversee all visual aspects of websites including planning, ideating, creating, and build responsive websites and landing pages, many of which combine several visual elements including text, photos, graphics, and video clips. Additionally, the candidate should have a solid understanding of web UX/UI best practices, testing, basic SEO, and design tools.
The position works closely with the UX Design Manager, Digital Strategists, and the University Marketing and Communications (UMAC) team of writers, designers, web developers and other marketing professionals to create web sites and campaigns that highlight and amplify UT Austin's mission and key messages. The successful candidate should be able to work independently and manage their projects with minimum oversight. This role is an integral part of expanding our CMS themes and features.
General Notes: Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for any employer without sponsorship. This position is eligible to work remotely from anywhere in Texas.
Responsibilities:
$75,000 + depending on qualifications

Responsibilities:
- Work with UMAC's cross-campus partners and clients to create user experiences that engage and inform our various audiences.
- Work collaboratively with digital designers, content strategists and web developers to deliver sites, pages and updates.
- Manage all aspects of the design process, including researching, concepting, user flows, prototyping, wireframing, building and reviews.
- Present to stakeholders and be a strong advocate for designs that align with brand consistency and audience needs.
- Work with others on the team to ensure quality assurance, brand compliance, SEO best practices and web accessibility.
- Collaborate with creative leads to ensure that designs align with brand guidelines, accessibility, web and UX standards.
- Ensure website function and stability across devices i.e. desktop, mobile, tablet.
- Other related functions as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design, Art, or related field.
- 1-3 years of experience in web design, with a strong background of working with developers on web design projects.
- Proficiency working in Wordpress and Drupal.
- Proficiency with modern design tools such as Adobe XD and Figma.
- Strong understanding of desktop and mobile UI/UX design best practices.
- Experience with user research methodologies and usability testing.
- Proven track record of designing successful web sites, evidenced by a strong portfolio of completed projects.
- More than 3 years of experience in web design.
- Fluent in HTML and CSS, front-end development is a plus.
- Mobile app experience is a plus
- Excellent collaboration skills.
- Ability to work effectively with a hybrid and remote team.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
