Position Summary:
The Communication Specialist is a key position in UNC's newAdministrative Service Center (ASC) model. The mission of the ASCs is toprovide stakeholders with quality, timely and efficient services. ASCs will achievethis mission by utilizing technology, cultivating the skills of our staff andbuilding strong relationships with campus stakeholders. ASCs will operate withthe understanding that we live in a competitive environment and our goal is toensure efficient and effective service.
ASCs will provide support to UNC's administrative divisions and academiccolleges. ASCs will reduce fragmentation in roles and emphasizespecializations. In its basic form, the ASC team will consist of (1) a businessoperations manager, (2) a human resources specialist, (3) an accountingspecialist, and (4) a communications specialist.
Communication: TheCommunications Specialist develops, writes, and edits content and coordinatesthe project administration of a wide spectrum of unit and college marketinginitiatives with a primary focus on identity building, integrated marketing. Thisposition requires exceptional promotional writing and editing skills, knowledgeof marketing communications and techniques, a solid understanding of socialmedia, strong organization and project management skills, and the ability tocommunicate and collaborate effectively with people. This position willmaintain and update the college and departmental websites and digital signage.
Event Planning: TheCommunication Specialist is responsible for organizing college events inaccordance with university procedures. Produce print materials for eventsincluding event programs, invitations, and advertisements for events. Scheduleevent and large meeting spaces and collaborate with UNC Conference &Events, as well as the event stakeholders.
This Communications Specialistposition works specifically with the College of Humanities & SocialSciences (HSS).

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required.Substitution: Additional appropriate experience can substitute for the degreerequirement on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications:
Two years' work experience in a related fieldis preferred. The following experience is desirable: a basic skill set ingraphic design (Adobe Site), marketing materials, photography, video, and/oraudio production; and experience with a website Content ManagementSystem, web user experience and design, and hands-on website updates.Substitution: Additional appropriate education will substitute for the requiredexperience on a year-for-year basis.

- Project management of printed materials including production, graphic design, copywriting, and
distribution. - Maintain and update current College and departmental websites. Create or coordinate digital assets
such as video, images, and written content. - Produce regular and special internal communications such as newsletters and student
communications, create and distribute posters for events, and manage digital message boards.
- Develop, conceptualize, research, write and edit promotional and task-based information for unit
publications and web content within the strategic communication guidance from University
Advancement ensuring consistent university voice, tone and messaging. - Collaborate with UNC communications, graphic designers, and web developers.
- Manage social media accounts and editorial calendar for regular posting.
- Write, revise or edit print or web content provided by campus and unit stakeholders and as needed by
the University Advancement team. - Work with creative team to develop and write scripts for advertising, marketing, and story-telling
videos. - Assist Enrollment Management with developing unit-specific messaging and marketing for
prospective students and parents.
- Coordinate regular and special unit events (internal and external) in accordance with university
policies, procedures, and standards. - Make food and beverage arrangements for events, including completing Food and Alcohol forms.
- Plan and coordinate photo and video shoots with university videographer and photographer.
- Produce print materials for events including event programs, invitations & RSVPs, posters,
advertisements, and others as needed to promote College events and programs. - Plan and facilitate special marketing events for the unit.
- Schedule large meetings for the college/unit.
- Manage the college/unit calendar entries and updates.
- Work with the Academic Affairs Communications Team to develop policies and procedures, align
efforts across units, and work as a team to advance Academic Affairs at UNC. - Work with the college/unit ASC Team to accomplish/complete ASC duties in alignment with other
units, the Division of Academic Affairs, and UNC. - Other duties as assigned by Dean and Associate Dean.
