ABOUT POMONA COLLEGE: Located near Los Angeles, California, Pomona College is widely regarded as one of the nation's premier liberal arts colleges. ABOUT THE BENTON MUSEUM OF ART: The Benton Museum of Art is the primary repository for Pomona College's art collections. Building on the legacy of its previous incarnation (Pomona College Museum of Art), the Benton offers an ambitious and expanding exhibition program. Now housed in the new Benton Museum of Art designed by Machado Silvetti and Gensler, Pomona College's collection of art numbers 18,600 objects, including Italian Renaissance paintings from the Samuel H. Kress Foundation; works on paper, including a first edition print series by Francisco Goya given by Norton Simon; and works in various media produced in Southern California in the twentieth century. In keeping with Pomona College's reputation as a leading center of the visual arts, the collection also includes works by such esteemed alumni as Chris Burden '69, Marcia Hafif '51, Helen Pashgian '56, Peter Shelton '73, and James Turrell '65. Recognized globally for its commitment to contemporary art, the museum is the home of The Project Series, which has featured more than 50 contemporary Southern California artists since it began in 1999. Through its collaboration with students and faculty, the museum encourages active learning and creative exploration across all disciplines of study within the liberal arts context.
POSITION SUMMARY: The Communications Manager, Benton Museum of Art reports to the Director and Associate Professor of Art of the Museum to help envision and oversee how the museum communicates with its various constituencies, including undergraduate students, alumni, residents of southern California, museum professionals, and art aficionados nationally and internationally. The museum utilizes print, digital, and in-person formats for communicating including the museum's website, social media outlets, bi-weekly newsletter, annual report, and regular event-related collateral.
Reporting directly to the Director, the Communications Manager, Benton Museum of Art works independently and collaboratively to perform the following essential duties and responsibilities:
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor of Arts degree in Art, Arts Management, museum studies or a related arts major or equivalent combination of education and experience is strongly preferred. Master of Arts degree in these fields is a plus. A minimum of 3 years of art communication experience is preferred with increasing responsibility working on collaborative teams. Experience at an academic institution is preferred.
REQUIRED HOURS: The regular hours for this full-time position are 40 hours per week, 5 days per week, on a variable schedule. Overtime, holiday, weekend and evening work hours will be required. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the College or division. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule.
ADDITIONAL POSITION DETAILS: Multi-year Temporary, full-time, non-exempt benefits eligible, position. The yearly rate for this role is between $31.79 to $33.57 per hour. The specific factors that the organization will consider when offering a salary to an individual will include education, training, prior experience, and performance in prior role. As a California employer, Pomona College requires all employees to be residents of California.

- Managing internal and external communications needs for various audiences, including the campus community, press and media, e-mail subscribers, digital audiences (social media and website), and grassroots support group the Friends of the Benton
- Ensuring timely and clean delivery of promotional material via several platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, and Mailchimp
- Working with Pomona College IT group on website maintenance and performance
- Planning and executing digital, print, and broadcast media campaigns, including meeting budgets and assessing metrics
- Managing multiple image banks and sourcing for promotional publications by the museum, including brochures, social media, the museum's Annual Report, and print campaigns
- Managing film shoots and photo requests in the museum's galleries
- Working with photographers and videographers to produce in-house archival and promotional images and videos of exhibitions, installations, and artists
- Cultivating relationships with and serving as liaison with members of the media
- Representing the museum in person at Benton Museum events and events held locally in the southern California region
- Assisting director of museum with philanthropic correspondence
- Logistical oversight of Friends of the Benton Program
- Collaboration with various members of Pomona College Advancement staff
- Supervising interns, consultants, part-time employees, as relevant
- Managing partnerships with external collaborators such as media agencies, PR agencies, and consultants
