Unreal Technical Artist

Evil Eye Pictures is looking for a skilled Technical Artist to join our team, specializing in creating high-quality, detailed visual effects and assets for in-game and cinematic content. In this role, you will push the boundaries of grounded real-time VFX, driving the dynamic nature of our content through stunning effects, and immersive environments. As a top-level individual contributor, you will focus solely on content creation, while working directly with our CG Supervisor.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Produce photorealistic, performant, real-time visuals using Unreal Engine
  • Experience creating Blueprints / Utility Widgets in Unreal Editor
  • Ensure VFX assets are optimized for performance and within memory budgets
  • Collaborate with CG Supervisor to support artistic and gameplay requirements for all content across gameplay and cinematics
  • Modeling and texturing using DCCs like Maya, Substance, Blender
  • Static and dynamic material creation in Unreal with blueprint interoperability
  • Ability to creatively solve problems and implement solutions
  • Research and implement new workflows, while contributing to technical documentation


What we’re looking for:

  • 5+ years of working experience on a 5+ person team working with Unreal Engine in a professional environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proven experience creating realistic and compelling content for games/film
  • Experience creating unreal blueprint systems from scratch
  • Knowledge of modeling, shading, blend shapes, and animation workflows
  • Good understanding of Unreal Shading Graph, HLSL, and Blueprinting in Unreal Editor
  • Working knowledge of real-time budgets and optimization with a general understanding of:
  • Draw calls
  • Overdraw
  • Instruction Count
  • LODs / Mipping
  • Experience with rapid prototyping and iterative development


Good to have:

  • Experience working with Houdini / Embergen / ImageMagick / OIIO
  • Comfort with Linear Algebra
  • Programming experience in either Python, Mel, or C++
  • Experience creating motion graphics is a huge plus
  • Experience with MetaHuman or other high fidelity CG humans


This is a full time position. This position is remote as we support a Virtual Studio.

CA Pay Transparency Information:

The expected annual base pay range(s) for this position are detailed below. Compensation varies based on a variety of factors, which include (but aren’t limited to) things such as skills and competencies, qualifications, knowledge, and experience. In addition to base pay, most employees are eligible to participate in Evil Eye's benefit plans and discretionary incentive programs (subject to the terms of those plans or programs).

Base Pay Range $100k - $140k
