Job Description
The Open Educational Resources (OER) Librarian will lead the planning, implementation, and coordination of support for open education and textbook affordability initiatives and advocacy. As a member of the Library Faculty, this individual will collaborate with faculty, administrators, and staff to create meaningful partnerships within the library and across campus, including the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, IT Solutions, the bookstore, and the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Office. This position requires a high degree of collaborative leadership and initiative and will be critical to the library's strategic growth to support student success.
In addition to serving students through open education and textbook affordability initiatives, library faculty work together in college-based teams to provide collection development, research support, and instruction. This position is a probationary, tenure-track faculty position assigned to the rank of Assistant Professor and is intended to begin on August 18, 2025.

Job Description

Responsibilities:
- Support Library Services Mission, Vision, and Strategic Plan efforts through open education and textbook affordability initiatives.
- Provide leadership, strategic planning, direction, project management, and assessment of OER and textbook affordability services for the University, including co-leading the Library Textbook Affordability group.
- Work collaboratively to provide advocacy and outreach, and to guide faculty in discovering and identifying, creating and disseminating, and adopting and assessing open and affordable course content.
- Participate in Minnesota State Open Education efforts and serve as a key liaison between the University and the MinnState System.
- Serve as a liaison to one or more academic programs, with responsibility for one or more of the following areas of focus: outreach, collection management, information literacy and library instruction, and research support.
- Engage in scholarly or creative activity or research, in continuing preparation and study, in contributing to student growth and development, and in providing service to the university and community (See Article 22 and Appendix G of the IFO Master Agreement).
Minimum Qualifications
- ALA-accredited MLS, MLIS, or international equivalent by the time of employment.
- Familiarity with current theory, practices, and trends related to open education, open textbooks, open pedagogy, open licensing, and fair use.
- Demonstrated ability to serve a diverse population and apply an equity lens, including social justice and/or anti-racism, to the role.
- Ability to successfully communicate and work collaboratively with Library stakeholders, including library colleagues, faculty, staff, students, and other academic units
Preferred Qualification
- Demonstrated knowledge of, or experience with, the challenges and opportunities surrounding open education, open publishing, or textbook affordability initiatives.
- Demonstrated experience with any combination of the following: open educational resources, instructional design, publishing, copyright, open licenses, Creative Commons, knowledge of relevant technologies, platforms, or tools for managing and disseminating OER.
- Demonstrated leadership, flexibility, and creativity in problem-solving or managing multiple responsibilities in a changing environment.
- Coursework or experience working with informational, instructional, communication or graphic design technologies to develop online tutorials, guides, or videos.
- Experience working in, or knowledge of, academic libraries.
- Ability to provide research support, instruction services, collection development, or outreach to diverse populations in an academic setting.
