An organized, detail-oriented, innovative individual with excellent interpersonal and technology skills to handle the day to day operation of the Sensory Space, under the direction of the Branch Manager. The Sensory Space Senior Library Assistant will ensure that customers of all abilities, especially those with sensory processing sensitivities, feel welcome at the library. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to authentically communicate with patrons of all ages and abilities, flexibility to meet the needs of the customer in the moment, and the ability to work on their own and as part of a larger team.
Examples of Duties
Work collaboratively with Youth Services, Teen Services, and Adult Services departments to plan programming
Work collaboratively with Sensory Space/Sharepoint Librarian to manage department SharePoint site and Teams channel
Submit programming and usage statistics
Manage and inventory Sensory Space equipment and supplies
Supervise Sensory Space "open hours" usage
Assist customers and staff with use of Sensory Space equipment
Enter events on Trumba and orders posters/flyers
Maintain equipment, including but not limited to: testing, cleaning, and troubleshooting
Manage room reservations for internal and external use
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Ability to communicate verbally and in writing clearly, concisely, and informatively
Ability to understand and follow Ocean County Library policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreements
Ability to prepare informative statistical and narrative reports
Ability to work respectfully and harmoniously with peers and customers
Education and Experience Requirements
License: Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform essential duties of the position. To be appointed to the Senior Library Assistant title, applicants must meet all New Jersey Civil Service requirements. Successful completion of one year (30 semester credit hours) in a librarian technician course at an accredited college or university can be substituted for the above experience.
