Job Description

The DNA-encoded Library (DEL) platform group at AbbVie Headquarters in Lake County, Illinois, is seeking a highly talented and motivated scientist to enhance our DEL Chemistry development platform and DEL data analysis capabilities within our Small Molecule Therapeutics and Platform Technologies organization. The individual will work within our DEL Team and collaborate with cross-functional groups including medicinal chemistry, protein sciences, biophysics, and cheminformatics to drive AbbVie DEL platform developments. The successful candidate should possess strong communication and leadership skills and will be expected to contribute to various drug discovery projects across the therapeutic area portfolio of AbbVie interests.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Be accountable for the design, development and validation of DELs synthesis schemes with high structural diversity using robust chemistry.
  • Supervise efforts to develop, validate, and implement innovative on-DNA chemistry strategies. Provide technical supervision and expertise in standard and innovative synthetic methods as required.
  • Interface with Medicinal Chemistry teams to enhance the DEL library portfolio, hit expansion strategy, and hit confirmation activities.
  • Contribute to the development of computational tools and methodologies strengthen our DEL data analysis platform and support hit generation activities across AbbVie therapeutic area portfolio.  
  • Contribute to the direction and evolution of AbbVie’s DEL platform strategy.
Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • BS, MS or Ph.D. in Computational Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, or related discipline with typically 4-6+ (PhD), 10-12+ (MS) or 12-14+ (BS) years of experience.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience in all aspects of the DNA-encoded Library platform (i.e., Library design, DEL selections, Next generation Sequencing NGS, data analysis, DEL hit confirmation strategies).
  • Experience with modern cheminformatics tools, computational tools, data visualization, and statistical analysis of large data sets is preferred.
  • A proven track record of scientific publications in successfully applying DEL technology for hit generation against targets of pharmaceutical relevance.
  • Demonstrable effective leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated a high level of professionalism in working with internal and external collaborators to achieve specific outcomes.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills as well as strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills.

Position will be filled at level commensurate with extent of education, experience, and accomplishment. Senior Scientist II or Principal Research Scientist I.

  • The compensation range described below is the range of possible base pay compensation that the Company believes in good faith it will pay for this role at the time of this posting based on the job grade for this position. Individual compensation paid within this range will depend on many factors including geographic location, and we may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range.
