This position requires an experienced audio journalist who is capable of conceiving, framing, reporting and producing podcast episodes. This position also requires excellent research and fact-checking skills; experience finding, suggesting and booking sources; coordinating taping at various remote locations; show running; and familiarity with podcast publishing platforms and workflows.
In addition, this position requires someone who can edit audio, sound design, mix, and deliver final audio files. This producer must be proficient at story conception, audio production, writing for on air, writing and editing text stories, and producing other online news content for the web, mobile and social media platforms.
A producer at KQED News is a journalist in a fast-growing, ambitious and exciting newsroom – a newsroom that is looking to expand its footprint as the indispensable source of local and regional news for the Bay Area. In the KQED newsroom, producers work with reporters, engagement producers and audio producers working on everything from local to state news on digital and audio and other platforms.This position is part of the SAG/AFTRA digital union.

This role will work hybrid between working inKQED's newly renovated headquarters and working remotely. KQED requires employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
Salary Information: $44.00-$55.00 per hour
Essential Functions:
- Researches, produces and edits podcast stories and episodes
- Helps frame, produce and edit episodes and stories, source episode topics, book guests, do field reporting as required.
- Logs, edits, mixes, and sound designs for story production as necessary.
- Knowledge of sound design and mixing for podcasts
- Familiarity with podcast publishing workflows and analytics
- At least one year of experience as podcast or broadcast news reporter, editor, anchor and/or host
- Proficiency or mastery of Adobe Audition (or similar program) audio editing skills
- Excellent editing skills
- Excellent news judgment
- Strong news writing and editing for broadcast and online
- Experience booking guests for shows
- Experience pitching story ideas
- Experience working in a newsroom under daily deadlines
- Proficient in reporting from the field and delivering audio, text, photographs, video and other content via variety of mobile equipment
- Thorough knowledge of journalistic principles, ethics and standards
- High proficiency in sound editing and podcast production techniques
- Familiarity with writing and publishing for the web via blogs, news content management systems, mobile, social media editing and publishing
- Ability to research and report news using a variety of technologies, methods and sources
- Demonstrated ability to cover range of significant public affairs issues and subjects such government and politics, the economy, education, health, immigration, legal affairs and the environment
- Ability to interview and communicate with a variety of individuals
- Ability to research and communicate through a variety of mobile and digital tools
- Ability to work under deadline pressures
Knowledge/Experience Desired
- Experience working in a demographically diverse news environment strongly desired
- Experience in blogging or other multimedia online news writing and story-telling a plus
- Working knowledge of a range of significant regional and state-wide public affairs issues and subjects such as government and politics, the economy, education, health, immigration, legal affairs and the environment preferred
