Job Description

Our team of Hardware UX Researchers and Human Factors Specialists provides technical expertise in cognition, perception, biomechanics, and ergonomics. Partnering closely with hardware engineering and industrial design, we aim to develop best-in-class devices. This role is pivotal in creating foundational data sets and durable, research-based design principles that shape current and future hardware development. Additionally, it involves conducting studies that directly inform product design and strategic decisions. We seek candidates with a rigorous and innovative approach to scientific research methods and experience in shipping hardware products.

Your research expertise and ingenuity must extend beyond contributing to knowledge—you should be adept at driving measurable positive impacts on products and user experiences.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish cognitive, perceptual, and ergonomic insights and frameworks to understand trade-offs and dependencies across business, experience, and technology workstreams.

  • Conduct research using diverse qualitative and some quantitative methods, providing actionable insights throughout the product development lifecycle. This includes human factors evaluations and testing of early designs and prototypes, as well as UX evaluations of more mature prototypes.

  • Collaborate closely with partners in hardware engineering, industrial design, product management, privacy, and security, ensuring the product team comprehends the user problem space.

  • Communicate effectively and present findings to a variety of audiences, ranging from product teams to executive leadership.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with 7+ years of relevant experience in user experience, applied research, and/or product research and development, or a Master's degree with 5+ years of relevant experience, or a Ph.D. with 2+ years of relevant experience.

  • Proven experience in user experience, applied research settings, and/or product research and development.

  • Hands-on primary research experience.

  • Ability to translate research findings into strategic narratives.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Human Factors or related fields such as cognitive science, HCI, industrial engineering, biomedical engineering, perceptual psychology, kinematics, and biomechanics.

  • Experience in shipping consumer and wearable devices.

  • Proficiency in combining qualitative and quantitative user data into cohesive insights.

  • Experience with wearable devices and inward/outward-facing sensing technologies (e.g., eye-tracking, EMG, SLAM).
